Terrell Owens waits for post-draft opportunities

Earlier today, a reader suggested that receiver Terrell Owens was spotted in Tampa.  If he was there, it wasn’t to sign with the Buccaneers.

We’re told that Owens, who drew early interest during free agency from the Ravens and the Bengals, is hoping for opportunities to arise after next week’s draft.

Owens has twice before been a free agent.  In both occasions (2006 and 2009), he signed a contract during the month of March.

He’s most likely to draw interest from teams with needs at receiver that aren’t addressed during the three-day draft, which launches on Thursday.  Given the Seahawks’ flirtation with Brandon Marshall, Seattle would seem to be a potential landing spot.  Though the amount of gas left in T.O.’s tank isn’t known, he’s surely better than Mike Williams and Reggie Williams, two former flame-outs in the top ten who recently joined the Seahawks.

  1. If Terrell Owens signs with the Washington Redskins, they will basically have to put every single Redskins game on national TV.
    …And I’m not even a Redskins fan.
    Seriously.
    Make this happen.
    Please.

  2. and im still waiting to hear from coach urban to see about that scholarship.
    (no im not.)
point is, owens can wait all he wants. hes still a 36 year old asshole wide receiver with little to no talent left

  3. Funny how a convicted felon manages to find work and TO can’t. Even with a diminishing skillset the headaches can’t be as bad

  4. Owens has plenty of issues, but some team will give him a shot. People say he has no gas left, but he played on a bad team last year. He may be a headcase, but he stays in great shape. If any receivers can still produce at 36 it would be him.

  5. I, for one, am stunned by this. Maybe you chumps have not heard this yet. TO played in the super bowl WITH A BROKEN LEG!!!! Just in case you haven’t heard.

  6. Hmm. I have to disagree with most of these comments. Terrell Owens behaved himself in Buffalo. He knows he’s at the end of the line. Most teams should at least consider him for an incentive laden 2 year deal. How has Jacksonville not signed him? Or better yet, Carolina, who could put T.O. as the #2 to Steve Smith while they groom some younger receivers. Perhaps Arizona could take him and keep Breaston in the slot. Of course, Pittsburgh could sign him and ask him to misbehave to take the edge off.

  7. you guys are clowns. He had Trent “Frigging” Edwards throwing him the ball. He is still one of the top 10 receivers in the game.

  8. “He’s most likely to draw interest from teams with needs at receiver that aren’t addressed during the three-day draft, which launches on Thursday.”
incredibly insightful stuff there Florio. Never would have thought of it on my own.

  9. Wow – I am curious to see if there is really anybody in the NFL who is stupid enough to give this jackass yet another chance to destroy one more team

  10. id take him in KC
pioli doesnt mind head case WRs (moss)… and we need someone who can actually catch a ball

  11. An acidic attitude can work for you when you’re young and talented. As he is, I truly hope no team even bothers.

  12. No way he winds up in DC. The Skins are trying to build a cancer free environment. No need for a over the hill mouthpiece to stain the locker room.
We already have Fat Albert and now Rocky stirring the shitpot. You don’t want to be part of the team, I say trade the greedy cunts to Raiders, Lions or Browns.
As far as Owens, he best days are behind him. He’ll end up in Seattle along with the other overpriced busts.

  13. mikeorclem it is spelled warehouse! At least you don’t need a high school education to blog.

  14. The bucs should sign him. who else do they have?
I think Radio Raheem is too paranoid about stunting Freeman’s growth (i.e. not starting him week 1 last year)
So, I doubt they sign TO because of fear he’ll tear apart the QB’s confidence but they need receivers and he’s probably more modest now then he’s ever been in his career

  15. Owens is 100 times better then Reggie and Mike Williams. Well if you can put up with his mouth.

  16. Hope TO has invested wisely…..not many big checks left. I don’t like him but he can probably play another year or two if he doesn’t completely alienate a team with is “I love me some me” attitude.

  17. He’s still got some goods left, but at 36 and with his cancerous locker room antics, he’s gonna land with a bottomfeeder team, if anywhere.

  18. The RAPIST in PA actually did something great for the NFL if they take advantage of it.
Now they can say NO to all the idiots that don’t appreciate what they have.
No way better to grow the revenues to what they want is to start re-establishing the american values through the sport.
BYE BYE T.O’s. NO MORE BIG BEN.
    Were movin’ on.
This is the NFL. “THIS IS AMERICA”

  19. i wouldn’t want T.O. back on the niners but little to no talent left? he still has talent left. he had 55 catches and averaged 15 yards per catch on a team with a bunch of awful qb’s, no offensive line, and no other threat. too bad him and mcribb got sand in their vag over each other cause he would be a good fit in washington.

  20. One heartbeat
    I’ll take him!
    Fools and hatres say no
He’s a above average WR. No question

  21. why is this in the buffalo bills category? any true bills fan does not care what terrell owens is doing because we are concerned about the future. i feel as if i speak for most bills fans when i ask you to stop categorizing t.o. with the bills. Mayor Brown should take the city key from T.O. (regardless of the fact that he didnt get 10 towchdowns and we didnt make the playoffs) and give tit to RYAN MILLER!!!!!!

  22. @Hooby
    “little to no talent”?
Hate him or love hin, he’s got HOF stats. Last year I would’ve never wanted the Hawks to pickup TO, but he will produce given the opportunity; since the Hawks arent going to make a legitimate run at the title, i’d be happy to have TO keep us afloat (or just away from the basement). He’s got more talent than a lot of top tier receivers.

  23. COME TO TAMPA!!! As a life-long Bucs fan I would love to see my favourite receiver come to the bay. Grab him, Torry Holt and Golden Tate in the 2nd. Suck on that NFC South secondaries!

  24. And here is where his pain in the ass attitude catches up with him! He still has talent, but couple that diminishing talent and the drama he brings to the table and you get a recvr waiting by a phone that won’t ring. If he wasn’t the drama queen he has been he would have been signed long ago.

This is funny,,TO was thee best thing that you bills fans had going for you, last year he might not have said anything to get himself in trouble, although it seemed like he wanted to,the whole year he seemed like the only person in that org that cared whether they won or lost, now all these bills fans come on here and blast him[after they met him at the airport, gave him key to city],im sorry but i dont see wheere the hatred comes from, besides fred jackson, what other player on that roster has any kind of upside,if you cared about your “future”,why did you let one of the best LTs go,and dont even bother bringing up lee evans,he couldnt get open with TO on the roster, but hey good luck with the future, with chan and the rest of the bunch, while the other teams in ur division actually do moves and you sit stagnent
einstiens definition of insanity:doing the same thing over and over and expecting diff results,,,that sums up the bills org

    Hey Joseph…
    Owens – (born on December 7, 1973)…
Played in the Super Bowl in February 2005. 9 catches, 122 yards. Deion Branch had 11 catches 135 yards.
Just to give a sense of how long ago this was… Alex Smith, Ronnie Brown, Braylon Edwards, Cedric Benson, Cadillac Williams and PacMan Jones were top 6 picks after that game.
Dude – you’re living in the PAST.

  27. T.O needs a good game plan to get him the ball if you have that and a good QB he still has something left in the tank. If you don’t have that he’s good for putting butts in the seats. but he’s not worth 6mill more like 2.5 or 3 mill.

  28. I guess sarcasm doesn’t come through the keyboard, but your post about me living in the past is somewhat ironic, if you now know what I meant.

  29. T.O. knows hes on the decline although he still produces,he has been a good soldier for a couple of years now if he lands in cincy it will be lights out and balls to the wall for any defensive backfield.
I still have my fingers crossed.

    Take note boys and girls.
If you can’t control your urges, go screw the cow behind the barn. This is Texas! … Yeee haaaaaah!

  31. Who is this “Owens” character? Has he even been relavant over the last 5 years?? Didn’t think so!

  32. T.O’s last good year was ’07…If Marvin Harrison couldn’t land anywhere after free agency T.O won’t

  33. No one can forget what he did in Philly, then turns right around and in Dallas tries Parcells patience to a point where the guy just quits. No coach or GM who isn’t flat out desperate (Bills) would want to endure that crap. As he gets older, with diminishing skills, few, I won’t say any, GMs or coaches want that kind of monkey business disrupting their team. Possible dsyfunctional landing spots for the $25 million-reasons man: Raiduhs, Bucs, uh………………..

  34. Isn’t it amazing that T.O., one of the most recognized athletes of his era, was never “targeted” by gold diggers?
I guess they were all focused on Big Ben – almost exclusively.
How odd that T.O. never had this problem yet Big Ben faces it every time he walks out of his house.
So odd. So very, very odd.

  35. Humility is a bitch, great talent, now slipping due to years of abuse, would most likely be on a squad if wasn’t for years of being a dbag. Still in an uncapped year I’d be surprised if no one gave him a contract for league min, the question then is he smart enough to take it, because he certainly doesn’t have those 25 million reasons to live any longer.

  36. Mike Florio spotted at home in his speedo’s at 11:17 am …..eating popcorn and adoring his terrell owens bobblehead…..sits at the computer and writes this horsepuckey!

  37. “Given the Seahawks’ flirtation with Brandon Marshall, Seattle would seem to be a potential landing spot.”
Pete Carroll and company should make this happen.

  38. Does anyone doubt TO can walk out there and get 60 / 1000 / 6 right now? C’mon. He is a pain in the tuckuss but he can go out there and be better than 70% of the WR’s in this league.

  39. He really didn’t hurt Buffalo. He made a few plays that were great, but he is obviously worried about getting injured and losing his value. If a pass was short or even barely out of his reach he would bail on the play. He was not willing to put in extra effort to make a play work. In my opinion, this is why guys his age retire. He really is one injury away from the end of career and he knows it.
