Akin Ayodele bides his time

Veteran linebacker Akin Ayodele, who started 15 games for the Dolphins in 2009, remains an unrestricted free agent.  He has visited the 49ers and the Lions, but we’re told that he has been waiting to sign a new contract until after the draft.

Even with the Lions moving linebacker Ernie Sims, Ayodele apparently will be waiting to see what happens on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

As we understand it, Ayodele isn’t being offered the kind of contract that would guarantee a spot on the final 53-man roster.  So he’s going to be inclined to join a team where he wouldn’t be expendable.

Ayodele entered the league as a third-round pick of the Jaguars in 2002.  He spent two years with the Cowboys before joining Miami in 2008.

  1. Um, okay…. A 3rd pick that has bounced from team to team holding out signing with someone because he’s not getting the contract offer/money that would guarantee him a roster spot. Good luck with that, buddy…

  2. He’s spending a lot of time at the golf course by my house. I see him out there working on his swing 2-3 times a week. Nice guy… wish him the best.

  3. Maybe Akin should try playing better. He hasn’t done much more than tie up a roster spot up til now.

  4. We should have also released Channing Crowder. Fricken waste of space. The only thing he is good for is threatening Florio and making him poop his pants.
