Week Seventeen will feature only division games

In an effort to create more meaningful games late in the season, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell revealed Tuesday that Week Seventeen will consist solely of divisional games.

He revealed the news at the end of his NFL.com chat and said that there would be there will be 28 divisional games in the final three weeks. (That makes 12 division games combined in Weeks Fifteen and Sixteen.)

For comparison’s sake, there were 15 division games in the final three weeks last year, including six in Week Seventeen. Goodell originally announced hopes for this plan in March.

This will hardly solve the anticlimax of the end of the regular season, but it can’t hurt.
