Report: At least one team seriously considered trading for Roethlisberger

Though the Steelers are now trying to cram the toothpaste back into the tube regarding the possible trade of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the talks that unfolded last week hardly were aimed only at putting a large scare into Big Ben.

Adam Schefter of ESPN mentioned during a draft wrap-up special that at least one team seriously pondered making the move.

The identity of the team isn’t yet known. It wasn’t the Bills, who we’re told opted early on to opt out of the process due in large part to assistant G.M. Doug Whaley’s knowledge of the player. Whaley served as pro personnel director for several years in Pittsburgh, and the same “last in, first out” concerns that prompted linebacker Joey Porter to call Roethlisberger out in front of the team four years ago caused Whaley to give the possible trade a thumb’s down.
