Marko Mitchell, two running backs among Redskins cuts

Redskins fans no longer have Marko Mitchell to pull for.

The seventh-round pick from 2009 was a fan favorite after a nice training camp last year, but new coach Mike Shanahan quickly decided he had no use for him.

Mitchell was among five Redskins cut Monday. The other four: running backs Anthony Alridge & P.J. Hill, wide receiver James Robinson, and defensive linemen Anthony Montgomery.

Montgomery started 22 games for Washington over the last four years.

Letting go of Alridge and Hill could be seen as a vote of confidence for Ryan Torain. The Redskins need some backups that can play special teams; Larry Johnson and Willie Parker don’t qualify.
