Redskins add another defensive lineman with Vonnie Holliday

13-year NFL veteran Vonnie Holliday will join a crowded group of defensive linemen in Washington, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Holliday played in Denver last year after four productive years in Miami.  He has flexibility to play multiple positions on the line, but should be a defensive end in Washington’s new 3-4 front.

Longtime Redskin Philip Daniels underwent knee surgery in May, so Holliday may have been added to compete for Daniels’ snaps. Adam Carriker, Darrion Scott, and Greg Peterson have all been added to the mix during the offseason.

  1. Good player. I was sad to see him leave the Phins 2 years ago. Solid locker room presence as well.

  2. Vonnie is a great guy and has had a pretty nice career. The kind of football player you always want to see do well no matter who they play for. One of Mike Shermans biggest blunders as a GM was giving Cletidius Hunt a big contract while letting Vonnie go FA. The on field implications of that decision might have cost the packers a super bowl. I like to think he might have helped on 4th and 26.

  3. Um in case you have not seen the news in the past month or so. The Redskins QB is now McNabb…. you know the guy from the Eagles. Some people on this site try to sound so witty when clearly they are not.

  4. Chapnasty, just because they bring these guys in does not mean they will make the team. There was over 100 guys on the field last week. Which means 50 players that are there now will not be on opening day roster.

  5. Sounds great, we got McNabb..forgive me for not being up on the news….but have we gotten a QUARTERBACK?!

Some? I would say without hesitation that 90% of the comments made on this site are totally worthless.

    Yup.
Deegan comments part of the 90%. You can’t even recognize sarcasm.
thejudge301, hugh? Where did you get that from?

  8. BlackQB- how ignorant can you be? We have the BEST black QB in the league… You’re such an F’ing moron go be a cowboys fan you lil girl!

  9. lurch’s nyquil
This is the Redskins… a team who cut young RB’s to bring in old washed up ones.. my money is on them keeping the old guys and cutting the young ones. History is on my side.

  10. HAHAHA it doesnt matter who the redskins sign…redskins is where ex probowlers go to die…FOR ALOT OF MONEY HAHAHA
    GO SEAHAWKS !!!

  11. Skins Baby- the best BLACK QB in the league? What the heck is that supposed to mean?
And where’s my White Running Back, if you’re going there??

  12. If only I would be smart enough to quote someone else’s posts and make a comment about mine Girthyone, I just don’t have that sort of intellect.

  13. ChapNasty, you “HAD” history on your side. New management in town and I do believe they will weed out the has beens and concentrate on the will be’s.

  14. I just fail to see where the optimism over McNabb comes from. He is better than Campbell, but at this point in his career, I question whether it would be smarter to get someone new and young.
And I wonder what offensive linemen we could have gotten with that pick…..

  15. lurch
agree to disagree I guess. Skins fans usually can’t see the logic in an argument against them. When all your team has done all off season is add old washed up bums like they have historically, it doesn’t say much about this new regime.
    Black QB
This is Washington we are talking about. Let’s not forget that you (if you are a skins fan) have spent the last 11 years bashing this guy and now he is your new hope.

  16. Black QB- name 1 legit white RB currently playing.
and also i would bet that darryl clark pans out to be a better QB than Bartel & Brennan. He’s black and young so there ya go…

  17. And therein lies the rub……hated him, still hate him (as a QB of course, just to be clear), don’t believe in him, never did, hasn’t shown me yet that I should…..
Sound bitter? Maybe that’s cuz for 10 years this team’s management has done nothing to instill any faith in their fans!
But Joe Gibbs still took a bad team to the playoffs twice in 4 years!! Hail!!
Hoping, but I just don’t see it yet……

  18. how has Snyder not done anything to instill faith in the fans…
we all wanted Cerrato gone. done
we all wanted a new coach. done
we all wanted a Snyder out of operations so he got Allen.
we all wanted a proven QB. done
He spends money to make the team better, he was just getting bad advise from Cerrato.
Allen and shanny are football guru’s… you should def have faith in our team this year.
    HAIL!

  19. Love the moves, LOW RISK HIGH REWARD MOVES. It’s smart, smart stuff. Building a team with character and chemistry. Good coaching, good qb. LOOK OUT! HAIL TO REDSKINS, HATERS BE DAMNED!

  20. SKINSFANTOM of course i am but i live in central va so you sit down, shut up, enjoy our leftovers, and worry about the hawks cus were going to bring the noise

  21. C hox fan you need to worry about your hawks and Pete Carrol who’ll proably be out of the league in a couple of years.

  22. Frostbite yeah ok didnt the redskins have like 8 different coaches in the last 10 yrs or something…how about i let pete carroll worry about the seahawks…and if your a redskins fan you will need to worry about the seahawks when we knock you out of the playoffs AGAIN

  23. Thank the LORD the Redskins are making moves and changing the attitude of this great franchise !!! !!! !!! the world will see this tem rise up in glory !!! !!! !!!
