Spagnuolo calls Feeley the starter, Feeley calls Bradford “inevitable”

St. Louis Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo says A.J. Feeley is, at the moment, the Rams’ starting quarterback. But Feeley realizes that Bradford’s status as the first overall pick in the draft means Feeley can’t keep the starting job for long.

“If we played a game today,” Spagnuolo told the St. Louis Post Dispatch Thursday, “A.J. would be our quarterback.”

But the Rams aren’t playing games in May. Once they are playing games, it’s not likely that Feeley will keep the job, no matter what Spagnuolo says now.

“It’s inevitable that this is going to be Sam’s team,” Feeley said. “When that time comes . . . who knows right now?”

When the time does come, Feeley says he’s fine with becoming Bradford’s backup and tutor.

“You look at it from two sides,” Feeley said. “For me, it’s a chance to hopefully get out there and play until I’m told not to. The flip side, it’s to help the young guy develop.”
