As rookie receiver Dez Bryant spends more time practicing with his future teammates, the first-round pick finds himself feeling better about his situation.
“Every day gets easier and easier,’' Bryant said Monday, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “I feel comfortable. I get along with the guys very well.”
Bryant and the rest of the players heard from Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach, who thinks that the team can fulfill Jerry Jones’ dream of playing in the championship game Cowboys Stadium will be hosting in February. “One thing he said that stood out was he said put away your personal agenda and focus on the big agenda, and that’s the Super Bowl,” Bryant said.
In a couple of months, one of Bryant’s most significant “personal agendas” will be front and center, for himself and for the team. His agent, Eugene Parker, will be negotiating a contract, a year after Parker presided over an extended holdout from receiver Michael Crabtree. Parker and Crabtree wanted to leapfrog the receiver drafted three spots higher, Darrius Heyward-Bey; this time around, Parker’s client was picked two spots after the first wideout, Demaryius Thomas. Amid the cascade of superlatives from team officials and other players, Parker surely will be trying to blow out the curve once again.
The fact that Jones and company know they’ll need Bryant in order to maximize their chances of getting to the Super Bowl likely will serve only to prompt Parker to push for even more money.
