Cable raves about Heyward-Bey

One Oakland Raiders beat writer opined on Wednesday that wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey had just gone through the best practice of his career. Raiders coach Tom Cable agrees.

“I don’t think there’s any question, Darrius was really on today,” Cable said after Wednesday’s practice. “I thought a lot of things went into that. The quarterbacks threw him a lot of balls on time. He caught the ball well, made a move with it after the catch, which was most impressive. That was a very good day for him.”

Other than the day he signed his five-year, $38.25 million contract, Heyward-Bey hasn’t had many good days with the Raiders. After signing that deal in July, he caught a whopping nine passes during the 2009 regular season.

But everyone who has watched Heyward-Bey at OTAs has come away impressed. Perhaps with JaMarcus Russell out and Jason Campbell in, Heyward-Bey is benefiting from having a better quarterback throwing him the ball.
