ESPN will play tape for Bowe, but not for the public

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe says he was misquoted by ESPN The Magazine in a story that detailed how the Chiefs arrange for “a girl in every room” of the team hotel. The folks at ESPN The Magazine say that if Bowe wants to hear for himself that he wasn’t misquoted, they’ll gladly play him the tape.

I spoke with ESPN The Magazine editor Gary Belsky and asked him to play the tape of Bowe’s interview for me, but he declined. He also said ESPN wouldn’t publicly broadcast the tape.

But Bowe does have a standing invitation to listen to the tape -- an invitation he’ll likely decline, as he’d prefer to see this story go away.

Personally, I think ESPN should make the full audio of the Bowe interview available so ESPN The Magazine readers can decide for themselves whether the magazine accurately quoted Bowe. Apparently that won’t happen.
