Seahawks officially release LenDale White

The Seattle Seahawks have formally announced the release of running back LenDale White.

And this time they won’t be taking it back.

“It became apparent at this time that LenDale was not ready to be a member of the Seattle Seahawks,” Seahawks G.M. John Schneider said in the team’s statement. “It just did not appear to be the right fit at this point in our program. We wish LenDale all the best with his future.”

The Seahawks acquired White in a trade with the Tennessee Titans during the NFL draft, and it’s not clear why the team decided to get rid of him a month later. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who also coached White at USC, had indicated that he was excited about being reunited with his old running back, and reports out of Seattle indicated that White was no longer struggling with his weight.

But whatever the reasons, White is now an unrestricted free agent, available to any team that wants him. We know the Titans and Seahawks don’t.

  1. I think LenDale just got punked by Pete Carroll.
An eating binge has begun and Carl’s Jr stock prices are soaring in late trading …

  2. Bizarre. He wasn’t ready to be a member of the Seahawks? What does that even mean? Well other than he’s not bad enough yet…

  3. Sounds like LenDale made a promise to Pete Carroll that he wasn’t able to keep.

  4. “…. LenDale was not ready to be a member of the Seattle Seahawks”
LOL – He obviously did something very wrong. That’s an ominious quote.

  5. Not only does Ohio State sucks, so does Tennessee and Seattle! Give me the tequila now!
    Lenwhale White

  6. They cut him because he sucks.
No matter what his weight was, he never had a league-average YPC.
Great, he ran for 1100 yards one year….at 3.7 YPC when the league average was 4.1
Meaning given the same number of carries, just about anyone else in the league would be expected to gain almost 1,250 yards.
He is mediocre at best, and it doesn’t help that he’s stupid and doesn’t recognize he’s below average.

  7. Interesting, to say the least. Could crack have made him lose all that weight? Legitimately, drugs could be a concern because of a pretty quick loss in weight like that. Not sure of attitude, never heard of him having one in Tennessee.
This one is weird, for sure!

  8. Come on over the Philly Lenny!! We’ll take you!!
Seahags are STUUUUPID!!! Carroll is a blow hard!! 6 wins MAYBE!!!

  9. trade for him in April, cut him in May. Fantastic GM work there. Good luck drafting in the top ten again next year!

  10. Smells fishy that they would just release him. Maybe he is facing a league suspension for what ever he took to lose the weight or maybe White is the player linked to the Canadian doctor? Will have to wait and see.

  11. “It became apparent at this time that LenDale was not ready to be a member of the Seattle Seahawks”
You’ve got to wonder what qualities are required to be a member of a team with an all-time losing record, an all-time losing playoff record, no championships, and 9 total wins in the past 2 seasons combined?

  12. Perhaps they figured out what the Titans already knew…that he wasn’t any good.

  13. hahahaha well I am eating my own word when i said he was going to rush for 1,000 yards for the seahawks.
I want to know the real reason why JJ sucks White would have been a upgrade.

  14. LenDale White could be on the way out in Seattle

During the 2010 draft, the Seahawks acquired running back LenDale White and defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson from the Titans for a flip-flop of the teams’ fourth-round and sixth-round picks. The move reunited LenDale with his college coach, Pete Carroll.
But the marriage apparently will be short-lived. Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times reports that the Seahawks inadvertently posted a press release on the team website indicating White has been released. Though the release has been removed, O’Neil reports that “indications are that it was not a mistake and White is going to be released.”
If it happens, White will become a free agent. Because he has four years of service, he won’t be required to pass through waivers.
The reasons for the coming move aren’t clear. White reportedly has slimmed down, likely in the hopes of having a big season and scoring a large-money, long-term deal.
Maybe he can then re-sign with the Titans, who’ll need some insurance at the position in the event that Chris Johnson stages a protracted holdout.
UPDATE: A league source tells us it “looks like” White will indeed be released.

it’s funny, just yesterday I was reading a piece from a Seattle-based newspaper that was proclaiming that White was destined to lead the team in carries and Jones was the one on the way out. Just goes to show you, once again, that nobody, repeat nobody, outside of the top dog head coaches has any idea about what’s going on inside the NFL. Keep up the BS PFT and many other sites!
    Now, bubsnaps1, apologise to Florio!

  15. There has to be a lot more going on here that what meets the eye. I know their have been questions about how committed he is in the past and whether or not he was mature enough to be in the NFL. He hasn’t gotten in any major trouble so the only thing I can think of is that he is immature and just does not have the will to succeed. If that is the case, what team would want him.

  16. Too bad he burned a bridge with Pittsburgh. We’ll be seeing him at Redskins Park in Ashburn tomorrow.

  17. This really came out of left field. Does anyone have any info on this. Considering Carol is the HC, sounds like Mr. White may have done something in the ballroom w/ the lead pipe perhaps???

  18. He did something that hasn’t come out yet. Possibly a banned substance to lose weight.

  19. Another sad story of a young player who will soon regret not doing anything and everything to make the most of a very unique and rewarding opportunity, only realize it well after it is too late to do anything about it.

  20. i always thought this dude was going to be better than he has been…… runs with an attitude. guess that attitude also got him released!

  21. WOW, White must suck that bad if a team that traded for him ends up cutting him. Especially if that team is coached by ur former coach from college.
I never liked White anyways. He was a big headed fool who had no talent. He thought he was better than he really was.

  22. He must have done SOMETHING stupid…this is just odd. They were going on and on about what great shape he’s in to the point of needing him to PUT ON weight not too long ago. Interested to see further details surface on this.

  23. Not ready to be a member of the Seahawks huh. How pathetic do you have to be to not be wanted by a bad team.

  24. Something crazy must have happened. I hope the Saints take him. He could end up in Houston though.

  25. Ha!
Just yesterday a Seahawks fan here was claiming White would lead the league in rushing.
I gotta say I respect Carroll for not becoming attached to his USC boys. That’s unlike Spurrier’s disastrous loading-up on washed-up old Gators, when he was with the Redskins.

  26. This can only be a drug or alcohol or anger management issue.
Oops on the spelling. I’m wasted you bunch of jerks!

  27. i really hope the lions jump all over this guy, best and morris could hold down the fort with white getting the short yardage carries and if his weight is still down possibly pushing morris for playing time. it would also allow the lions to trade kevin smith if he doesnt show the promise he did as a rookie, and if so they can trade morris for a ever popular fifth or sixth round pick in next years draft, to someone who needs a reliable number 2 back that can produce.

  28. I really thought that it would be Julius Jones getting released not Lendale. I’m starting to worry about Seattle when Lendale gets released this early in the off season and Mike Williams seems to be the guy getting the most praise.

  29. It looks like the Seattle Times coverage of the Seahawks isn’t very aggressive. The media of most other teams would be all over this story before it was close to being officially announced. Either Pete Carroll has airtite security within his front office, or no one really cares enough to be watching the team closely and asking the right questions. Looks like the Seattle Times needs beat writers a little more motivated than Danny O’Neil.

  30. A running back with weight issues that two teams rejected. Sounds like the makings for a new Cleveland Brown.

  31. I really don’t get what seattle is trying to do.. . first they signed all this players that have been out of the league for a while and then they trade for players to just cut them.. whats next… Washington wont be able to play? talk about wasting picks and $$!!

  32. nobody is going to jump on him… he’s being suspended by the NFL for 4 games.

  33. Sounds like personality conflict. If it was drugs or something else clearly black or white, that would have come out.

I heard Albert Hayesworth got Lendel pregnant
I heard Lendel and Albert got each other pregnant – with triplets

  35. That’s the curse of the Terrible Towel, again bringing someone DOWN for dissing it. HAHAHAAHA you fat piece of trash, good for you… And see what happened when your boy Douchemazadeh did it? Now he’s wasting away in Seattle, whining and crying cause he can’t perform.. Who’s next to ruin their career?
