Southern Miss inches toward forcing Favre's return

lg_favre1_ap_01.jpgA couple of weeks ago, Vikings quarterback Brett Favre told the Southern Mississippi baseball team that, if they qualify for the College World Series, he’ll return to the Vikings for the 2010 season.

(What Favre left out is that, even if they don’t make it to the College World Series, he’ll return to the Vikings for the 2010 season.)

With the Regionals commencing later this week, Southern Miss is still alive.  If they get through the June 4 through 7 double-elimination round and then emerge from the June 11-14 Super Regionals, they’ll qualify for the CWS.

So, basically, we could know in two weeks what anyone who has been paying close attention to the 2010 offseason already realizes.

  1. The most impressive thing about Favre is that he has never missed a start (knock on wood)
In a world where almost everything is changing day to day in life – financials, people, jobs, school, politics, etc…
One thing you can always count on is Favre under center on Sundays, I love it.
Never retire Brett, everyone else is hating on you because they wish they could still play, once you hang it up its all over, why hang it up, ball till you fall
the day he hangs it up will be a sad day, it means i’m old, Im 23 and since I could remember watching football this guy Favre has been in the league and never missed a start?
you kidding me? The one position in ALL of sports that 11 men on the defense are gunning for your head, sack the QB, pressure the QB, knock down the QB, and he’s still here, after all these years,
this guy is a LIVING LEGEND, literally
he balled with marino, montana, young, aikman all the way to the rothlisbegers, mannings, bradys,
    hes spanned like 3 eras.
I love it. Come back for thing ring and then ride off in the sunset as the gun-slinging forever young legend…

  2. So, if Southern Miss beats Detroit and Denver beats Atlanta in the American Southwestern Division East Northern, then Milwaukee goes to the Denslow Cup, unless Baltimore can upset Buffalo and Charlotte ties Toronto, then Oakland would play LA and Pittsburgh in a blind choice round robin. And if no clear winner emerges from all of this, the two-man sack race will be held on consecutive Sundays until a champion can be crowned.

  3. If Favre is a so called “LEGEND” then Tracy Porter is THE LEGEND KILLER!
FAVRE IS TRASH AND THE VIKQUEENS WILL NEVER EVER WIN A SUPER BOWL.

  4. As a lifelong viking fan, I have always respected Brett for his toughness and competitive spirit. All this will he play or won’t he play is drummed up by the media, and you haters out there fall right into their trap. Brett will play if he can play, and his family supports him. Leave the guy alone and get a life.

  5. chris465,
Dude, you read my mind. Sweet post.
Southwestern division east northern, lol. That’s the best part.

  6. That piece of sh-t is coming back..quit talking about it til it happens plz

  7. Three topics are guaranteed to generate web hits and comments here:
    Favre
    Roethlisberger
    Patriots
NBC/PFT better upgrade the servers prior to the Sunday night games week 10 and 15.

Did this asinine comment of yours make you feel like a “real man” ???
What an absolute P.O.S. you must be.

  9. Florio, next time you bash Favre, just remember, he’s the only football player of all time that could make you do a baseball update. Clearly he’s the man.

I love how you have so much hate for him, your username even involves him, just maybe you should learn to SPELL HIS NAME RIGHT!!!!!!

  11. Farve is trash… that’s why he will be in the Hall of Fame and none of us reading this blog will. He’s making millions because he can stand out there and do what none of us reading these stories can: play football at the professional level. I’d like to see all these critics get off their computers and play on Sunday. I was a good high school football player, but I’d be stupid to think I could play at D-1 football level, let alone NFL.

    – dude, chill, your owner is a piece of trash, he tried to move the team.
your not a storied franchise, its a 1 and done thing, your not repeating next year, your still the ‘aints and always will be until you have a few more rings under your belt.
i love how a team wins 1 ring and all of a sudden their fan base thinks there gonna be like that 24/7 now, your like another tampa bay, nice lil superbowl cool, now beat it
favre is a legend dude. when you make statements like that you just make yourself look dumb and lose credibility.
that goes for all the favre haters in here. get a girlfriend, get some money, get a job, get a life, bc anyone who HONESTLY disrespects a man who has played QB in the NFL for like 20 years obviously has some other issues inside that are not quite right. Especially when all of us are sitting behind keyboards, not knowing anything their is to be an NFL QB. You dont know what its like and neither do I, thats why you dont see me hating on any man in the NFL, its a violent sport.
More then 90 % of the people who post on PFT are just the “ra-ra” fans, not real football fans who know the X’s and O’s and the history and tradition of the game and the league. Thats why theres always so much non-sense here, its like PFT needs to make another site for legit fans who know what thier talking about so we can talk some real football, not peoples feelings and bizarre opinions.
You all destroy the cred of PFT
HA the vikings will never win a superbowl, dude you just won your 1st one!!!! it was your first time in the big game as well. IF manning wasent such a choke artist you would have nothing.

  13. Instead of beating the dead horse, can we beat Brett Favre [until he retires]?

  14. If Bill Belichick could coach Brett Favre against Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy every week, then Florio Jr could retire already.

  15. Total non-story. Just another excuse for you to continue your insane obsession with the Geriatric Gunslinger.

  16. Like Favre’s word is worth anything. Didn’t he say he was done, not once, but twice?
Stating the obvious, it doesn’t matter what Southern Miss does in the CWS, it only matters if Chilly is willing to cede control over the team to Favre, wait, that has already happened.

  17. I wonder how BrInt’s bastard grandchild is doing? I heard his daughter f#cks everything that moves.

You put the “ass” in Classless.

  19. How can people hate on Favre, he is all thats right about pro football. He plays for the love of the game, he brings players around him up.
I love the guy and hope he plays as long as his body will let him. He is a hall of famer and NO ONE will ever break his consecutive start record, not even a kicker.

Just asking but if all the saint’s have is one title and still are the Aints, what exactly does that make the Vikings who really don’t have anything to show except somehow claiming greatness from having Brett Farve. News Flash: Brett Farve won his one and only superbowl (he has the same number as Brees has and many other qbs in the history of the league) in Packer land (your biggest rival). So just asking again, what do you pillow biting Vikings have a claim of glory for? getting to the big game and choking time and again?

    3. Slang A person, especially one who is held to be mean or disagreeable.

    1. Born of unwed parents; illegitimate.
    2. Not genuine; spurious: a bastard style of architecture.
    3. Resembling a known kind or species but not truly such.
    ——————————————————————————–
[Middle English, from Old French, probably of Germanic origin; akin to Old Frisian bst, marriage.]
    ——————————————————————————–
    bastard·ly adj.
Sorry I hurt your feelings fellas, but the facts are the facts. BrInt’s grandson is a bastard, deal with it.

  23. @ Pull & Seal
You are correct technically re: the bastard thing. (Hope ya feel better). It’s the “I heard his daughter ….that moves” thing that is pure conjecture and makes you look slightly bitter & completely pathetic. I take it you never had premarital sex, which would not surprise me–that is, if you are old enough to do that yet..

  24. In addition, I assume, at least this is one bastard child who’s mom, most likely will not be holding out his hand for welfare, food stamps, free medical care nor dealing crack on the streets. This also is pure conjecture but I have a pretty good feeling it has a good possibility of being true.
Another piece of pure conjecture that may or may not hold water is the fact that I would imagine Brett probably spoke to the young man responsible and said “Son, as soon as I heal up from this beating I took inthe NFCCG, your ass is mine.

  25. @ whodat, put the bag back on your head, remember those days? You may need it after the season opener ya f*cking moron!

  26. Favre’s return will not be dictated by some college baseball team. He was providing them with some motivation, that’s all. Everyone knows he is coming back, it just can’t be acknowledged…becasue then he would be chastened on-end to explain his absence at camp. He wants to come back and he should come back. He is the best option at QB that the Vikings have (but not by much.) As a Packer fan I am not the least bit concerned over his ability to replicate his success from last season….it ain’t gonna happen. He had a “sun, moon, and stars” magical season last year, his best statistical season ever. What are the odds of duplicating that effort? There isn’t room on this page for all the zeros in that equation.

  27. LMAO @ Vikings fans trying to down the Saints for only having 1 Super Bowl win…when they have ZERO.
    Hilarious.

Funny you should say that. The Ra Ra’s love Favre because the NFL panders to morons who just want to watch the manufactured “he’s just a kid out there” guy. Real X’s and O’s guys know the value of OTA’s, minicamps, training camp, being a man of your word, hard work, loyalty and not making a retarded mistake at the most crucial time.
If this guy played for the “love of the game” he’d be at Winter Park for OTA’s throwing dig routes to Sidney Rice. Or maybe in the film room studying Montana, Brady, Starr, Bradshaw (or any other quarterback to win multiple Super Bowls without the #1 defense) on how Not to throw season-crushing picks.
Women, children and the casual, non-commited to football male love Favre.

More specualtion and conjecture from the king of it!!!
This is the exact same crap you were spewing last year.
I’d worry more about the spanking your defense took in the WC game thean whether Favre is coming back or not.
Face it, this is your hopes for what happens with Favre. You can’t know anymore than the rest of us, how he will play.
You should be afraid, be very afraid.

  30. Farves sweet Hair- Favre has nut sack hairs tougher than you cupake…………

  31. @Supersuckers- LMAO Good story Super.Hope you threw the undies away…they had to be shot! I can say I know just how you felt. Reminds me of the time i took clients fishing after I drank 2 huge coffees. I don’t drink it too much.Let’s just say i had to keep running the boat ashore and sprayed in the woods with last nights cheesy enchiladas…at least 4 times. Thank God the fishing was good…

I guess this is why Rodgers is in the OTAS working on his punting technique, huh?
Jesus, you guys throw Favre under the bus but GayRod gets a free ride for his overthrow and penchant for holding onto the ball too long that he had to try a quick kick….
    Hypocrites.

jennings was illegaly bumped past 5 yards. Not that it matters. But Favre chokes every season. Aaron overthrew Jenning s yes but the timing may have had to due with the non-illegal contact call.

    Excuses , excuses, excuses.
They don’t work for Favre and Vikes fans, they don’t work for GayRod and Pack fans.
You can wipe your ass with that illegal bump!
Christ you have 3 of the most flagged guys for that on your own defense!!
Thanks for proving my point that Packer fans are the the biggest hypocrites out there.

  34. RC ( a fine cola)-
I am still not going to call 28-42, 440 yards and 4 TD’s a choke job. Lead his team back from down 35-10 with 5 straight TD drives. The overthrow of Jennings was a throw that should have been made and the fumble was a fumble…and the most obvious facemask ever not called.
Plus, one 440 yard game where your offense scores 45 and still loses doesn’t not make you a choker. Favre’s last 12 years in the playoffs…different story.

  38. actually The Minnesota Vikings HAVE won a league championship. It was in 1969 against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was prior to the NFL-AFL merger…so it wasn’t called the “super bowl”…but it’s still recognized as a championship victory
Vikes were the first team to go to four super bowls, but we lost.
So Saints and Vikings have each won one. But the only reason why their SB record is better (100%) is just because they have only been in one, whereas we have been in five.
