Eagles say Marlin Jackson ruptured an Achilles tendon

Silva pointed out earlier today that Eagles cornerback Marlin Jackson suffered a potentially serious leg injury during practice on Tuesday.

And it indeed turned out to be serious.

Jackson has ruptured the Achilles tendon in his right leg.  The team announced the diagnosis after an MRI confirmed the injury.

Jackson possibly will be placed on injured reserve.  Last month, Steelers receiver Limas Sweed suffered a similar injury, and not long thereafter he was shelved for the entire season.

The alternative would be to place Jackson on the Physically Unable to Perform list at the start of the season, and then to assess the situation in the window that opens in Week 6 to activate the player for up to three weeks of practice before determining whether he’ll be added to the active roster or placed on injured reserve.

  1. Ruptured Achilles are bad news. No way he gets PUP’d. He’ll be on IR before the week’s out.

  2. That sucks, you hate to see anybody go down before the season even starts…I hope he gets better and we get to see him play next year, especially for his family sake.

  3. This is why you sign people who don’t have a history of injuries!!!!
I swear anytime a player with torn acls or mcls is available the eagles without doubt have interest!!! PAY FOR QUALITY!!!

  4. Marlin jackson hurt?….oh wow didn’t see that coming
The eagles are a football nursing home if youe broke it we buy it smh

  5. damn this is a shame. i cant see the Eagles keeping him after this. this guy just has all the luck…bad luck that is. an ACL in each leg torn and now this. sucks for a guy who is such a good football player.

  6. Is this his first season with philly and wasn’t he often hurt in indy?

  7. He’s done for the season and possibly his career, good thing his contract was not guaranteed.
These injuries tend to happen a lot to guys coming off knee injuries, overcompensating on the achilles I guess to protect the knee…it’s a shame.

  8. Poor guy can’t catch a break. But this is what the Eagles get for shopping in the bargain bin. They have a thing for guys coming off of serious injuries, and once again, it has failed them. Even though it wasn’t the ACL this time, how about the Eagles assess a player’s health before offering them a deal? Or better yet, why not go after the marquee free agents they can afford? I wish Jackson the best of luck, but maybe this will open the Eagles’ eyes.

  9. Just what the Eagles need less depth at the CB position. All I can say is Samuel and Hobbs better stay healthy and bring their A game this year otherwise were back to the drawing boards.

  10. well i guess that the other safties have a slightly better shot of making the roster now….
Kurt Coleman, Ryan Hamilton, Quintin Demps, Macho Harris, Quintin Mikell, and Nate Allen are who the Eagles got at both safety positions as of now…..
I guess Quintin Demps is the only guy i see as possibly being dumped for one of the rookies Coleman or Hamilton. Demps hasnt exactly been great, but if he stays….eh…at least he knows the system pretty well.
Nate Allen better be awesome or else its Macho’s job again.

  11. Dude has been pretty resilient in his career so far, this is disturbing news indeed.

  12. No disrespect Eagles fans (I’m not just a mindless fan who hates on everybody’s team) but I’m now so glad the Eagles beat out my Ravens to get this guy. Come to think of it, I thought the Eagles one upped us back in the day when the pried T.O out of our hands, but that also turned out to be not so bad…

  13. Sounds like the 0-3gles have a built-in excuse when they get buttraped by Dallas again this year.

  14. And they have already said they are not interested in Atogwe because they said that they are satisfied with their depth. Man, that rook we drafted must be a STUD since that is the only player different from last years awesome unit… the birds have done nothing but dump salary all offseason. they are going with an inexperienced QB and the defensive upgrades are based on a couple of rookies and some veterans co ming off injury… still looking forward to seeing what Kolb can do but guess I should start preparing for a top 10 draft pick as well… F Eagles Management!!!

  15. God’sOwn, so what you are saying is that your “boys” like buttraping? Always thought there was something funny about Homo, I mean Romo.

  16. That is too bad. As a Colts fan, I will always like Marlin for the game clinching INT vs the Patsies in the 2006 championship game.

  17. or .. since most of you “don’t get it” in the NFL.
He wasn’t ready to play this year … he goes on IR,gets stashed for the year,,and OH YEAH ..the Insurance policy kicks in .. and the EAGLES get him free ,this year.
Wait it out till next year ..at NO cost.
another BRILLIANT move by Banner and Co.
So many here …just don’t know NFL football

good call. was that the year the Eagles went to the supper bowl?

So, what’s Dallas’ excuse for being swept by the Giants? Douchebag move celebrating a guy’s injury – even for a Cowboys fan. Congrats! You climbed lower on the evolutionary ladder than Vox.

So what’s the 0-3gles excuse for being swept by Dallas 54-14?

  23. I think the Colts let Jackson walk because of their concern he is injury prone. And …uh…the Colts 3rd Rd CB pick is out for the season as well…

  24. Makes you wonder what this guy does to himself during the offseason. One season-ending injury in a career is bad luck; 2 is horrible luck; but 3? That is more than luck. If a guy doesn’t work his body into shape during the offseason & jumps into OTAs thinking he’s going to get in shape while practicing, he is going to get injured. His work ethic must be questioned here.

Yes, shit-for-brains, the Eagles are going nowhere this year b/c Jackson went down. Their entire ’10 season was contingent on Jackson’s dominance and nothing else. You clearly are a student of the NFL. Keep “LYFAO,” village idiot.

  26. Cowboys fans who aren’t from Texas make me laugh. What a bunch of pussies.

  27. so cowboy fans like to talk about buttraping and foreskins. Sounds about right

cowboys fans seem a bit confident after their first playoff win in how many years? Congrats on beating an eagles team last year that was completely depleted on the offensive line with injuries and without one of the best mlb’s in the NFL in stewart bradley.

  29. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think the sowboys were the only team in the NFL who didnt have any of their starters go on IR and all they could do was pull off ONE F’n playoff win?!! The healthiest team in football, and they get stomped on in round 2 of the playoffs. And the way these cowboy fans talk, you would think their team went undefeated. I swear they brag more about 1 playoff win than the Saints fans brag about their Super Bowl title!

  30. RIP his career. Nate Allen, welcome to baptism by fire. Ask Macho Harris about it.

  31. @kappy
He has been rehabbing a torn ACL basically for 2 years, its difficult to stay in football shape after 1 year out of football imagine 2…
Most of the time when players come back they compensate for their knee by putting more stress on their heel and Achilles injuries are common when That happens.

    Maybe I’m wrong

EOM. How many Super Bowls has YOUR team ever won?
