Broncos medically clear rookie WR Thomas

We recall touting Georgia Tech wide receiver Demaryius Thomas back in January, when the rest of the “draftniks” were sleeping on the mega-talented underclassman. Thomas did not make the top 32 in initial mock drafts released by ESPN’s Mel Kiper and SI.com’s Don Banks. We predicted he’d be among the “late risers” leading up to draft weekend, and would be drafted in the first round.

Thomas Michael Crabtreed his foot while preparing for the Combine, and still went 22nd overall.

The injury was specifically termed a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot.

On Friday, Thomas practiced with the Broncos for the first time. He was spotted running all-out sprints, making cuts, stopping, and restarting in individual drills.

Quarterback Brady Quinn was impressed by the 6-foot-3, 224-pound specimen with sub-4.4 speed.

“He’s just such a big kid, and you don’t really realize it until he gets out there on the field,” observed Quinn. “His route running looked pretty solid. I know he’s just coming back, but he looked good out there.”
