DeSean Jackson, Asante Samuel missing from OTA

D. Jackson2.jpgThe Eagles reconvened Monday for the final four voluntary practices of the offseason, missing two of their biggest names.

Cornerback Asante Samuel was excused for a personal reason, according to the Eagles.  (UPDATE: There was a death in Samuel’s family.)  The team had no official reason for Jackson’s absence.

Jackson has been the subject of (over)praise for handling his contract situation without skipping any work.

It remains to be seen if this absence is merely a warning shot from the wide receiver, a random occurrence, or the first step in a Pay DeSean campaign.

  1. …it’s voluntary. he’s allowed to.
and half of the (over)praise (or at least unnecessary attention) has come from you guys constantly writing articles that he’s actually gonna turn into TO and destroy the team.

  2. I wont be mad if desean does hold out… dude is makin chump change by NFL standards and hes a 2 position Pro Bowler.
For everyone who says honor ur contract… that contract was offered with the Eagles expecting him to return kicks and be an often injured #2 receiver too small to stay on the field… not a Pro Bowler.

So does that mean that the JaMarcus Russells of the world and the Chad Jacksons of the world or the Vernon Ghoulstons of the world are going to be paying their money back? No, of course not. You sign the deal under the terms of the deal. Personally, if I were the team, I’d say “By all means, sit”. Fine the crap out of them, and let them get another year older.

  4. No. That contract was a slated offer since it was his rookie contract, especially being a 2nd round pick.

  5. Eagle fans are just so silly. They think DeSean won’t turn into a cancer. What a joke of a franchise. Gold Standard for sure.

  6. Desean is going to emerge as a borderline top 5 WR in the NFL this season…and as an Eagles fan I believe it just might be in our best interest to restructure his deal now instead of potentially having to pay him EVEN MORE after he explodes this year. We most definitely aren’t gonna let this kid get away or anything so why not just lock him up now and be done with it?

  7. If Asante put on 200 lbs he’s be a carbon copy of Shawn Andrews. Fat, lazy, and soft. With zero interest in the game of football.

  8. Makin something outta nothing………….. Voluntary Rosey……. Look it up.

  9. to guy with aids… actually, yes, there should be a rookie salary cap so Jemarcus and Vernon dont get multi millions before they record a sack… if they do turn into pro bowlers you then give them a raise.

  10. Everybodysgotaids: last time i check jamarcus, chad, and vernon weren’t even close to be being on the same level as desean. You people just love to hate on Desean because yea he does run his mouth but he is able to back it up. Jackson has earned his money emerging as a top 10 receiver in this league and therefore be paid.

  11. Desean ahs done nothing to get the diva Tag. he has been a good player and kept his nose clean it sounds like somebody is wanting him to act bad.
Get off his case, there is nothing there.

  12. PhlyinTOOhigh, the medicine in Pa must be better than elsewhere. He’s already emerged, plus he can just hold out again, if he actually does hold out.
The team’s a mess. Ask Cleg and Jrlas.
X68X, the new CBA will address those concerns, if they ever get around to addressing the CBA.

  13. Why do we always need to make rules that protect the owners from themselves? No one made the Raiders take JeMarcus, let alone pay him.
Overpaying for rookies is the fault of the owners. It’s not like the NFLPA is even remotely effective.

  14. I read where Bill Parcels used to kinda “threaten” players who no-showed OTA’s. Ya, they aren’t mandatory, but Parcells used to tell guys, don’t get mad when someone outperforms you in your absence.
