Undeterred by the Top Pot donut caper, the San Francisco Giants used a draft pick on Seahawks receiver Golden Tate.
OK, so it came in the 50th and final round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. Per Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times, the Giants took Tate with the eighth pick from the very last.
Another guy who’s more likely than Tate to play baseball wasn’t drafted, for a change. Dolphins quarterback Pat White, drafted most recently by the Yankees in the 48th round last year, didn’t have his name called in 2010 -- even though he potentially could be faced at some point with choosing whether to change positions or change sports, and he not long ago mused about playing baseball instead of football, if asked to become a receiver.
Of course, some smartass who has mastered the nuances of the MLB draft protocol likely will be advising us that White already has been drafted the maximum number of times, and thus that he can’t be drafted again.
Either way, Tate was drafted. And White wasn’t.
