Harbaugh: Ravens will sign Hamlin, Harris or Lucas

A week ago the Ravens brought in veteran free agent defensive backs Ken Hamlin, Walt Harris and Ken Lucas for a tryout, and although none of them signed, coach John Harbaugh expects one — or more — of them to join the team before training camp.

“I think we’ll sign at least one of those guys,” Harbaugh said on WBAL, per the Baltimore Sun. “We’ll be watching that waiver wire pretty closely because there may be some teams that have to relieve themselves of some budget issues and let a corner go. So, we’re going to look at all of those options. We want to be as strong as we can at corner.”

The Ravens could use some help in the secondary, with safety Ed Reed and cornerbacks Fabian Washington and Lardarius Webb all recovering from injuries.

Hamlin started 12 games for the Cowboys in 2009. Harris missed all of 2009 after tearing his ACL in the offseason, but he started all 16 games for the 49ers in 2008. Lucas was a backup with the Seahawks in 2009.

  1. Which one of these will fulfil the clown role that has been filled by Corey Ivy/Frank Walker over the past few seasons

  2. Sign em all. Their secondary will suck after Ed Reed inevitably gets injured again this year.

  3. harris and lucas get my vote, make it happen ozzie, still think too much has been made of the secondary, was just them, the passrush was what allowed teams to march on the raven def, this season will be alot stronger up front

  4. Oz has put together a very nice team this year. Depth at most positions is very good except for the defensive backfield. If we can pick up one or two semi-reliable CB’s we will be in good shape for when Webb and Washington return from their injuries.
Tough part for us is the beginning of the season with the first 3/4 on the road and in tough places. If we come out 2-2 or even 3-1 we will win the AFCN. Just one man’s opinion.

  5. Ravens winning the AFC North…Hell No!!! Everyone is caught up with what the Ravens are doing. The Ravens hate the spotlight, they like being hated.

Secondary is the only glaring weakness for the Ravens. And Flacco, aka Captain Checkdown. But that doesn’t mean anything if they start to actually blitz this year, unlike last year. As a Bengals fan, even I was embarrassed to watch the conservative-style defense playcalling. Good pass rush covers up average secondary play

Bly might be pricing himself out of teams budgets, maybe demanding to be paid as a starter, like T.O. That could explain why he’s still on the market.

I’m sure they’re as effective as Harry Hamlin, Ed Harris, and Ray Lucas.
