Brett Favre: "I would love to beat the Saints"

Brett Favre has yet to officially declare his intentions for 2010, but his actions continue to be transparent.  Heck, he’s not above some mild trash talking.

“I would love to go beat the Saints,” Favre told Al Jones of the Biloxi Sun-Herald.  “I know I can still play at a high
level. Last year was a great year, but it could have been better.”

Favre bikes eight miles a day as part of his recovery from ankle surgery,
which he says remains on schedule.

Jones pops up every year around this time to talk to his buddy Favre for the NFL’s version of Groundhog Day.  Based on these comments, and Favre’s surgery, there’s no doubt that we’re getting 17 more regular season weeks of number four.

  1. Beating them 1st week of the season is nothing like beating the Vikes in the NFC Championship!!!

  2. Where was that attitude in January?? When he was gift wrapping the SB birth for the Saints

  3. Where was that attitude in January?? When he was gift wrapping the SB birth for the Saints

It was getting up off the turf–again and again–after getting repeatedly knocked down by a defense trying to take him out by any means and playing on what at the time was what he thought might be a broken ankle….earning even more of my respect.

  4. *****YAWN*****
If he plauys in the opener in New Orleans, he’ll further ruin his legacy.
    RETIRE NOW

  5. There’s a photograph of former Giants quarterback Y.A. Tittle on the field … down on both knees with his helmet off, bleeding from the head.
I think the Saints could update that with Farve taking Y.A.’s place, down in the SuperDome this fall.
    Who Dat!

  6. Judging by pics or your ankle, Brett, the Saints beat you pretty soundly.
We know you’d love to beat the Saints. But this isn’t Detroit, man, this is the Super Bowl (champs).

  7. I still look forward to seeing Brett play every year, and I’m not a Viking or Packer fan.

  8. ok, not that you’ve committed to him coming back, that means no more stories about a guy that no one cares about right?

  9. This isn’t Detroit man, This is the Superbowl!!!!
What does a game in Sept. have to do with ANY kind of revenge or make-up for Farve. The Vikings ARE A joke. Doenst matter anyway cause the Saints gonna beat em like a drum.

  10. If Favre indeed comes back, I am going to unload on the Vikes money line for their week 1 game in new orleans.
    Easy money.

  12. 1) He has to be on a better team.
    2) What does he care he is a vagabond free mercenary playing on 3 different teams the last 3 seasons.
    3) All viklings ever do is wish for success and dream about success in the offseason, yet never work for it.
    4) The viklings are the only NFC team with no trophies and no World Championships. 50 years of futility.
    5) He was foolish enough to CHOOSE to be a vikling.

    Fixed.
78 days and counting until the Saints game.
    GO VIKES!!!

  17. In other news….Bus Cook is still denying that Favre will play for the Vikings in 2009. When pushed for an answer Cook stated “I have no information that would lead me to believe that Brett will play for the Vikings in 2009, as far as I know, he is still getting over his retirement from the Jets and is enjoying his family at his home.”
Yawn…….the ol’ gunslinger will be back…and will fail. Have fun Vikings fans…..

  19. The Saints are fat and happy and will not make the playoffs this year. Is there anybody skinny in New Orleans? Really?

  20. LOL……….Viqueens have their Super Bowl dreams ready for a Sept. 9th week 1 match up with the Saints………Too bad Paul Allen will jump out of the press box because of more AP fumblititis and Brett Favre…well being Brett Favre and throwing what he throws best in clutch games…Picks!!! and not to mention he will get demolished from the Saints “D”….and yes the Vikes will lose and Florio will submit more useless articles about the downfall of Reggie or more articles about Brett and his plans for week 2.
It’s too bad Southern Miss didn’t make the CWS and now all the Minnesota faithful have to cling on the hope of Tavaris not starting…lol!!!!!!!!!!!
    2DAT!!!

  21. I’m a Favre homer but this applies to every other story as well.
Stop posting replies like “WE look forward to beating him this year” or “That’s why he lost to US last year”. Your fat ass has nothing to do with the teams winning or losing. Sit back on your couch, lean back, slide that hand down your pants and just dream about those 3 td’s you had back at Polk High. Because that’s the only thing of significance you’ll ever do the rest of your life. Well, maybe you’ll get that hard to reach back hair off too.
We all know athletes are overpaid and a lot of them can go suck a big fat one with their arrogance. But bottom line is they are doing something that you only wish you could do and are mad at them because your life sucks. Get over it. If you don’t care or are tired of certain stories then why do you spend the time and effort to comment? Some of you comment on EVERY SINGLE story.

  22. The line about 17 more weeks got me thinking… if the Vikings are losing bad in the 4th quarter of the game before their bye week, will the team let Favre go home early?

  23. Really? says: June 24, 2010 3:19 PM

Wow, way to go out on a limb there. Hard for him to be better though isn’t it?

  24. Big Easy: May wanna study up on football. I doubt the Seahawks owner cares if AP fumbles or Favre throws an interception.

  25. Biking 8 miles a day? Seriously, what good is that going to do? That’s about as much exercise as Bob Nelson gets walking to his kitchen to grab another Ho-Ho to go with his juice box.

  26. It is almost like Saints fans are mad at the Vikings for only losing due to bad luck basically. Seriously. You see these little trolls in all the Vikes threads now (I realize this one is Saint’s related but still).
You’d swear its their feelings hurt over the fact that the Vikings and referees handed them the victory as opposed to their team really earning it.
Ah well, should make for an interesting week 1 matchup. Barring 6 fumbles and heavily unfair officiating it should be an easy win for the Vikes.
    Go Favre!

  27. “bonafide says:

Like clockwork, you take the bait.

    Keep the whining coming…
“Barring a boatload of turnovers, we should win easy”

  29. Easy to say this when you’re still in the comfort of your own home and haven’t been hit yet. We’ll see how bad you want to beat the WORLD CHAMPION Saints in September.

Bad luck? Pissing away possession of the football again and again and again and again (wait… how many is that… 1, 2, 3, 4… oh, need one more)… and again… does not translate to bad luck.
The Vikings simply choked again… as they always do.

Really dude, sheesh, get it together, what are you thinking?
Wett Fatre. That’s what happened when Anthony Hargrove piledrove him.

  34. That’s it, that’s the big goal for 2010, to win game one. Combine that with his statement that last year was his best season despite his previous career highs of actually winning 2 NFC championship games and a Superbowl (obviously not with the Vikings at the time) and you can begin to why they failed.
I think I know what the problem is, they are setting their sights too low. I could understand why Childress would be of that mindset, he still can’t believe he could call the Viking’s bluff when he first got the job so he’s just happy to be employed even if it is only the Vikings. But Favre should really know better, maybe its old age setting in, maybe he realizes that Fumble Fingers is going to blow the next chance they get, maybe he’s hit Percy’s bong one too many times, who really knows.

  35. @PHREAKIN

  39. “… playing on what at the time was what he thought might be a broken ankle…”

Broken ankle? That’s the first time that I’ve heard that. I knew that his agent sent a bunch of Bret Bruises pictures around trying to float them as an excuse for literally throwing the NFCC game away but I didn’t know dude was running around on a broken ankle-geez the legend just keeps growing!

Next thing you know we’ll be told that they amputated Brints foot during halftime, but Mr Ironman just sucked it up and “got ‘er done”-almost.

  40. Its funny how a team will lose and its fans would scream foul play……If it wasn’t for the 6 fumbles and the bad calls we would have won. Yeah but you did fumble 6 times 5 of them forced! And a pick thrown by a man so many of you praise. He did what he has always done throw a pick. Other than playing almost every game of his entire career i’m not impressed.
Take your loss like a man and see us in Sept. Your coach thought you had the best team and lost. Maybe instead of just driving Brett around maybe he can rub his ankle after practice.

  41. He won’t beat the saints. He will watch the Green Bay Packers win the NFC North and perhaps the NFC. He’ll regret his return. If he keeps coming back, he will eventually have a season where he deeply regrets it. Probably this year.

$13 million, no coach or coaching staff, free reign over the offense, no acountability, no OTA’s, mini camps, training camps…a billionaire ego stroker in Wilf, a KY spreading, cross dressing, knee pad wearing chauffer in Chilly….what more could the bumpkin want?

  49. Vikings fans LOVED last season – 12-4, NFCC game appearance, all in Favre’s FIRST season with the Vikes – you couldn’t ask for more, and his second season promises to be even better. As opposed to the Puckers who are heading for one more Tightwad Ted season with no division crown, no playoff win.

  52. Saints were goood but the vikes did hand them the game 12 men in the hudle come on…..OH YA THE SAINTS FILL FALL ON OPENING DAY..

You have nothing more to prove Diva!! You’ve already proven that you haven’t or can’t win a BIG playoff game since ’96. What a joke…

  54. The saints did not win the NFC championship game.
    The vikings lost it.
We were the better team. We lost.

    3. Detroit
    4. Seattle

    6. Philadelphia

  57. Julius Peppers is gonna chew on Favre’s ankle like a KFC chicken leg. With a side of sack fumble and a extra large Bryant McKinnie’s pee fountain drink!

  58. 12 men in the huddle is what doomed the vikings. if there is no penalty for this, the vikings run the ball on the next play, not pass.

  59. I’ll laugh when in the 4th quarter, tie ball game, tracy porter pick six’s to end the gam.

  60. LarryBird18 –
The Saints didn’t win it…and the Vikings lost it…so the question is, WHO won????
    You’re an idiot.
I enjoy reading the piss ant whiny Vikes fans. Your overrated RB dropped the ball…your QB who chokes in playoff games tossed 2 picks….you lost the game. Quit crying. Rodgers kicked the game away for the Pack and the defense got shredded…oh well…onto next year. It’s nice to be a man about a loss and not a whiner like the Vikes.

First of all, have your 4th grader read the answers to your 5 points:
    1. You are correct-Favre did in fact go to a better team each time sincing leaving your gold and puke…went from the pukers in 07 to Jets in 08 to the Vikes in 09.
    Not bad for a 7th time 8th grader…give yourself 1 point!!
    2. Vagabond??!!

    You closet Vikings fan you!!
Give yourself 1 point, what the heck!!
    4. This one will cost you. You obviuosly did not count on your fingers correctly, Booby.
There are actually 7 NFC teams that have not won the Supe…..Philly, Detroit, Seattle, Atlanta, Carolina, Arizona, and Minny. Which is almost HALF the conference!
For extra credit, you missed the fact that the Vikes did win the NFL Championship in 1969.
NEGATIVE 6 POINTS for the other 6 teams missed…….bad booby!
    5. Foolish? Oh,booby boy.
True foolishness is playing soccer during a football game per Erin Rodgers, kicking the football, NOT FUTBOL, to the opponent for the loss.

  64. Hey Boob Nelson and Jiminy Smith, how many Superbowls have the Packers won since you started being a fan? Not since you were born, but games you watched as a fan. One? At best. They also went 27 years without a playoff appearance. TWENTY SEVEN YEARS!!! It may make you feel good to rehash the glory days before most of us here were born, but you’re living in a fantasy if you think winning the Superbowl today is the same. Just like the Vikings fans never mention the “Championship” game they won, the Packers fans quote the Championships but confuse them with Superbowl victories. C’mon, Tampa bay has won one. The Packers were a dynasty when the league consisted of 8(?) +- teams, they wore wool jerseys, leather hats, and it was OK to play hung over. Get over it.

  65. Bob Nelson is a total homo. At least Viking fans aren’t seasonal fans. Some douchebags don’t understand that you don’t have to like a team because they have a world title. Seasonal candyasses.

  69. And I bet the Packers, Jets, and Vikings would have liked Favre to not end their season with an INT. We can’t always get what we want.

Good lord Rosenthal, you are a dope.
Saying he was coming back SOLELY TO beat the Saints would, I suppose, be mild trash talking.
It amazes me the people on this site that purport to hate all the Favre stories, and then read each and every one of them, and then take the time to comment on each and every one of them. Hypocrites.

  71. It’s hard for me to get pissed at Saints fans even when they talk smack, life has sucked in New Orleans and letting the Saints win the Super Bowl was kinda like taking dying kids to Disneyland.

  72. hey “Fat Ass Al Jones” I want my $110.00 you lost a couple decades back.fat punk, dont really know what Brett see’s in your sorry ass!!!

  73. hey brett maybe you can beat them in madden but not on a real field with you as qb. you know as well as me in crunch time you will throw the big pick.you are the most overrated player in nfl history!

  74. Like i’ve said in the past…putting all your eggs into Favre’s basket is comparable to building a treehouse in the oldest tree in the forest. Yeah that tree is the biggest around…but soon it’s comin down. VIKES FANS: enjoy the limited prosperity Tarvaris Jackson and Co. will provide you for years to come. The vikes are the Jets of tomorrow, soon they’ll all be crying their eyes out that they have every piece in place to win a superbowl….except for the most important piece in your franchise hahaha

  75. Brett ‘Fraud’….. it will not happen !!
In the current realm of the NFL, in order to win a SB, one must be a ‘Team” Player – need I say anymore !!!

  76. Favre should stick with beating himself.
Do the Vikings really think that they are so close to winning the SB that they can continue on with this guy?
The heir apparent should have been playing last year. Who is that again?
    Horrible management decision.

  77. Brett Favre, Yep, This will be the year when all the media and NFL fans say “he should have retired, he lost it, age finally caught up to him” Yep thats what everyone will be saying. He stayed one year to long.

  78. Gotta love all the fools who claim to “hate BF” but let there be a post or article with BF’s name and all the haters can’t read it fast enough……and make their comments. I don’t care if BF plays or not……it isn’t gonna change his legacy, he will go down as perhaps the greatest QB ever, at least top 3. Yeah you’re right…I do “speek” well. I could point out all of your other grammatical errors, but you’ve already embarrassed yourself enough.

  85. Hey Bob, I remember when Pack people loved Brett Favre, but slander him at every opportunity. Funny how you have nothing meaningful to say. Same old Packer B.S. Skol.

  86. Yea Yea, I’d love to beat Brett Farve with a tubesock full of oranges, but hey we can’t all get what we want in life

“I remember when viking people would slander Brett Favre at every opportunity.
They have no integrity or anything meaningful to say.”
Seems like the roles have been reversed…

  88. PURPLESTEEZ –
From one Viking fan to another, please shut up.
There’s no need to give the opposition any unneeded ammunition…

  89. When I was growing up in central PA there was no home team. Most people around town liked the Eagles, Steelers or Giants but there were also Redskins, Colts and Jets fans, and a few Bills fans, because of proximity. Of course kids also liked the Cowboys, Raiders, Dolphins, Rams, and Vikings because those were the good teams that were on TV. There were of course no Packers fans. As a Vikings fan then I did not ever give the Packers a second thought, they were that bad.
When SportsCenter started in the 80s it would be very funny to hear this Berman guy talk about the ‘Bay of Pigs’ twice a year.
OK, the Vikings have not won a Super Bowl. But we also have not sucked beyond caring for 20+ straight years. Cheesheads, when you remember your history, remember it all please.
As for Packer fans laughing about Vikings fans liking Farve after booing him for ‘all those years’ you don’t get it. The fact that the Packers wanted 3 1st round picks from the Jets if they turned around and traded him to the Vikes says it all. The fact is Farve on the Vikes chapped your ass from day one which meant it was a win for me no matter what else happened. The fact that I continually see Viking blogs filled with Pack fans bitching and pretending Farve now sucks to them makes me smile because it shows how much it still bugs you. Yes your old idol now likes me more than you and when I see it still bothers you it is funny. I’d say let it go finally but God its funny to see.
For Saint fans, even the ones on here, I say congrats. If the Vikes could not win, it was nice to see you win. You guys were bad for so long you deserve it. Plus you are a lot of fun when visiting NO. What is the difference between you guys winning last year and he cheeseheads winning in 98? You guys don’t act like you didn’t have a very long bad streak and embraced the win while Packers fans thought they were/are NFL royalty and pretend like their winning is the way it always has been.

  90. No Packer fans in PA? Not a very observant young lad were you?

PS – it wasn’t 98. And when the Packers did suck, they didn’t need some d-lineman doing commercials to beg the fans to buy tickets. Playoff tickets even, pathetic.

  91. No pack fans in the 70s. Are those time machine phone numbers?
Sorry, 96. I don’t really track Pac wins.

You know what Saints fans… Your team even tho won the Superbowl stillsucks.. Lets see i bet its a nfl record with a nfl team in the superbowl with almost a dead last overall defense. Now thats said…. Can’t stop the run and had a hard time stopping the WR’s of the vikings. I really hope Rice,Shiancoe,Harvin and berrian walk all over you guys in week 1. 34-17
Reply: That Last Overrall Defense mopped the floor with the vikings

^ Gotta love how obsessed the “viking fans” are with Packer’s History…it’s alright, just get in line with the rest of the jealous division.

  94. i use to have at least a little respect for bob nelson… no more. the stats he thinks he knows. lol hes a looser.
i never had respect for jimmy… lol
i wonder if they are the same looser

Speak English please. Oh…and if the Saints “suck” what does that make the Vikings?

  96. I’ll be glad when the Saints go back to being the Aints again and all in the universe is back to normal. You fans are like a homeless guy winning the lottery and then talking shit about to the homeless community. It wasnt long ago you guys were wearing bags on your heads. Come down off your clouds before reality knocks you off and you get hurt.

The saints did not win the NFC championship game.
    The vikings lost it.
We were the better team. We lost.
It’s so sad what’s happened to the public education system in America.

  98. How can the better team not win? Strange indeed, maybe the better team DID win. Hmmm

  99. If Favre returns, the Vikings will win that game. Favre is able to win the games that “don’t really count”. It is the big games (see Falcons playoffs in Lambeau, NFC Championship game against Giants in Lambeau; NFC playoffs in Philly; oh, and any game at Texas Stadium) that where he throws the pass that should have never been thrown.
I’m glad he’s the Vikings problem now.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You cut me deep with that one, I wonder if I will be able to sleep tonight knowing some gerbil packing Viking fan never respected me.
BTW, if you want to call me names, that’s fine, I would just suggest you learn how to spell, Loser.
    Loser.

  101. And I will be the biggest Saints fan the day they play Brent again!!! The Packers will have another chance to beat him too. Can’t wait for the season to start.

  102. The Saints are a good team but the Packers are just horrible, they can’t rush the passer and they can’t defend the pass, they get shredded by good QBs.

  103. Yes your old idol now likes me more than you and when I see it still bothers you it is funny

    Hey Johnko
IF you think Brett cares one iota about you, me., or anyone else on this site, then you really don’t know much about Brett Favre, do ya?

  104. Training camp can’t get here quick enough. See ya in mid-august Brett!
The 2010 Brett’s Farvewell Tour is almost here!
It’ll be his last, with or without a ring. He knows this teams going to be good again. Percy, Shaincoe, Rice, Berrian and Gerhardt, Peterson outta the backfield. Yea, I’d bet thats going to be enough. The D ain’t too bad either, they didn’t lose the game to the Saints. And, only one cold weather game this year at Philly. Then it’ll be time to hang ’em up and retire to south with a smirk on his chin.
Vikings vs Packers Nov. 21st is a noon kickoff, how long before the NFL changes that to a 3:15 or later game time, ha! I’ll be there at the ole Dome for the last time Favre plays the Pack.

  105. Yeah I agree Tice, and I think he’ll go farther in his 2nd season with the Vikes than he did in his first. Then we’ll have McNabb after that, he stated publicly that he really wants to come to Minnesota and he never signed a deal with the Skins. The future looks very bright for the Vikes.

  106. @ Bob Nelson..
Are you a Vikings stalker? I see you posting every day, every hour on rube chat and here talking smack non stop about the Vikings..
Is your life really that pitiful?

  107. # snowbum says: June 25, 2010 11:12 AM
“Jimmy, did you just call someone a loser and then sign the post as loser?”
    So well played!!!
I definitely got a laugh out of that one.

  108. “Yeah I agree Tice, and I think he’ll go farther in his 2nd season with the Vikes than he did in his first. ”
    ——————–
Why, because of all the hard work and team-building he’s doing in the off season? Or is it his history of coming though when it matters?

  109. JimmySmith & BobNelson, you are clearly football-challenged. Please return to the bedroom of your shared trailer where your talents actually lie – snorkeling each other!
    Nothing personal 🙂

  110. Beating the Saints in Game 1 will make theVikes the instant Champs Vindicate them for the Zebras stealing the Game and Begin the Most Memorabl Season on NFL History. Vike goe Undefeated Win Superbowl and Bret carries Grandchild on fiekd after Superbowl, Peterson and Gerheart will be declaered greatest 2 man backfield ever and NFL History and Legend will forever be altered!

  111. Im very Sad to Predict that Game 1 will be moved to Minnesota due to FEMA taking over Gulf Region following August 25th tragedy in New Orleans. The Gulf Oil Spill with a Hurricane and something else will cause the move. Many psychics have seen this occuring. Sounds crazy and I pray Im wrong!!!

  112. Favre would give his left nut to beat the Saints in Week 1. Then again, the Saints would to like to rip him apart once again. I hope he comes back so the Saints will shut up these viking fans.

  113. Seriously, how many time can you lease a piece of refurbished equipment before it breaks down for good? Favre, you had the chance to walk away and now the game of football will retire you! My fearless prediction has Favre not making it to the bye week!

  114. The problem with you Pucker fans is that 2 years ago you made your bed with Thompson and now you have to sleep with him (once you get Erin out of the bed). You were 1 OT from going to the SB and instead of adding a few pieces to get you over the top, you went with Erin and Ted didn’t add any pieces and now you’re stuck where you are now, instead of taking the next step you haven’t won a playoff again. And because you made you bed with Thompson and now you’re sleeping with him, you can’t even complain out loud about what he did to your team. All you can do is just cry silently.
    This article makes alot sense:
    http:// pregame.com/forums/f orums/t/60217.aspx

  115. PackFansLikeSheep: (snicker) Purple Drank?

    This QB named Brent Gump,
who suckered the Vikings, the chumps,
to think he was a savior,
    do yourselves a favor,
And remember more losses will add up.

  116. radioboy: whaaaa?? In his 1st season Brett took us to the NFCC game. Just like he took the Packers to the NFCC game 2 seasons earlier only he never had the chance to take the next step to the SB for you guys like he will with us cause your retarded GM dumped him and rebuilt the team so naturally you guys haven’t won a playoff game since. So now you guys are all crying but how is that our fault or Brett’s fault?

  117. Vikings = Losers. Always have been, always will be. Their brokeass fans suck… can’t support the team financially (link below) or emotionally (recent playoff games not sold out?)
Face it, the owner is going to move the team to LA… or sell the team to the group building a NEW STADIUM… with no public funds.
Tata Vi-queens. I can’t wait to see the day when the losers in MN don’t have a team to masturbate to.
LOL @ Vi-queens in 2nd to last place… more worthless than everyone except Oakland? MN should be ashamed.
