Dolphins agree to terms with rookie Austin Spitler

The Miami Dolphins have reached a deal with another of their eight draft picks.

Mike Berardino of the Sun Sentinel reports that the Dolphins have agreed to terms with seventh-round pick Austin Spitler, a linebacker from Ohio State.

Spitler, who was taken with the 252nd overall pick, will sign a four-year, $1.83 million contract with a signing bonus of $40,000. He can make significantly more than that with a fourth-year escalator clause if he meets certain incentives.

The Dolphins targeted the front seven in this year’s draft, as Spitler was one of five Dolphins draft picks who play linebacker or defensive line. As a rookie he’s likely to make his biggest impact on special teams.

Miami has now signed three of its draft picks, with fourth-round linebacker A.J. Edds and seventh-round linebacker Chris McCoy already in the fold.
