Michael Vick picked up Roddy White at the airport on Thursday in anticipation of Vick’s 30th birthday party and Vick’s youth football camp held at Hampton University.
White says he and his ex-quarterback celebrated together, but were gone by the time a fight broke out, ending in gunshots.
“We were already gone by the time that stuff started happening, so I
don’t know what’s going to go on with that or whatever, but we didn’t
have anything to do with it,” White told the Daily Press on Friday, during a break from camp.
The fight occurred at 2:10 A.M. and Vick’s old dogfighting co-defendent Quanis Phillips was reportedly shot, although he didn’t want anyone to know. Police say Phillips initially tried to drive away from the scene before getting pulled over and being taken to the hospital.
Vick spoke to campers on Thursday, but it’s unclear if he was there Friday too. Some of Vick’s words on Thursday:
“I tell these kids the truth, because I don’t want them to follow in my
footsteps working so hard for everything that they’ve accomplished and
building a legacy, and not having the opportunity to defend that legacy
if something detrimental happened.”
