Drew Brees has no doubt he'll see Brett Favre in the opener

The New Orleans Saints will open the season against the Minnesota Vikings on September 9, and Saints quarterback Drew Brees says he already knows whose hand he’ll shake at midfield before the coin toss.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Brett Favre is coming back, and he’s going to be as good as he’s ever been,” Brees told Nancy Gay of FanHouse. “We’re going to need our best game to beat him, I know that. They’re a good team. A very good team.”

Although Favre himself claims he doesn’t know whether he’s going to play this season, everyone else in and around the NFL seems to agree that Favre will be with the Vikings when the season starts.

That regular season opener, a rematch of the NFC Championship Game, has generated quite a bit of trash talk this offseason, especially between Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe and Saints safety Darren Sharper. Brees says he and his teammates are already getting excited.

“There has been some chatter back and forth between our team and their team, and I just kind of hear about it. I don’t really do much of it,” Brees said. “Listen, we know that’s going to be a big game.”

  1. Brees will only “see Favre in the game” if the lineman will still let him climb up on their shoulders.

  2. Drew Brees talking about Brett Favre makes Brett Favre an attention whore. Yes it does.

  3. Vikings fans better hope Favre isn’t as rusty against the Saints as he was against the Browns in his first game last season. it’s gonna take a while for the 40 year old to get back into game shape if he misses training camp and a chunk of preseason again.

  4. Favre is under contract for this season only.
His back ups Rosenfels and Jackson are under contract for this season only.
The vikings have no QB under contract for 2011.
It will be interesting who they sign to replace those 3.

  5. “And we’ll need at least another 5-1 turnover advantage like last time or we’re not getting to any overtime,” Brees added.
    Good luck with that, Drew.

  6. Favre is the greatest ever, it’s a shame his daughter disgraced the family name.

  7. I think it’s already pretty well determined who the Vikes next QB will be. McNabb stated publicly his wish to be traded to the Vikings but as Favre, the #3 MVP vote getter last yeasr, will be playing QB for the Vikes again this year, the Vikes were not able to accommodate McNabb until next year.
Therefore, McNabb accepted his trade to Washington where despite Washington’s best efforts, McNabb has refused to sign an extension. He will sign with the Vikings on the first day of free agency next year, after Favre retires with yet another Super Bowl ring, and Ted “The Gay Ghost” Thompson retires in scandal and infamy.

Like when he won the superbowl? loser…

  9. If the Vikings fans had the cajones to actually bet on this game instead of just run their mouths, they’d be droppin lots of cash.
No way that old man is goin to NO with no training camp reps and win.
    This ain’t Cleveland in ’09.

  10. Knock ’em on his ass again…and again…and again…and… you get the idea!

  11. We’re going to send Favre to the retirement home–he won’t finish out the season.

  12. Saints 34 Queens 21
After talking so much smack in the offseason, Queens can’t back it up in their opener and go down easily in this one. They never quite get over the loss and it stays with them all season. The result, a dissapointing 9-7 season. I’m never wrong, book it!!

  13. Favre is under contract for this season only.

Don’t they have that “stud” receiver or running back or whatever who is supposed to be their QB of the future? He’s the obvious choice to replace Favre.
As far as Rosenfels/Jackson, they could sign Jamarcus – even he’d be an improvement over them.

  14. “it’s gonna take a while for the 40 year old to get back into game shape if he misses training camp and a chunk of preseason again.”
Yeah, maybe even as long as last year when he missed training camp and a chunk of preseason and finished #2 in QB rating and #3 in MVP voting for the season.

  15. Drew Brees is becoming what Tim Tebow was in college.
Too good and nice for his own good.

  16. so what kind of revenge do the vikings get if they do beat the saints in a regular season game?great you win but the saints still get to play again next week unlike the vikings who lost when it counted in the playoffs!stop with the excuses already, you made the mistakes and the saints capitalised.good teams do that and by winning the superbowl the saints were the best team!

  17. 74 days and counting.

    Unfinished Business.

  18. I hope the Lombardi doesn’t have a nasty mole/birthmark now after being fondled by Brees/Payton.

  19. Bobby, you should be worrying about whom will be under center if Rogers gets hurt THIS YEAR. That should concern you. The Cheezers will go from a great QB to a frightened, inexperienced morsel for Jared Allen. Running for one’s life is not conducive to accurate passing.
Got any stats on how many replacement QBs step in and tear it up? Of course you do. Let me have it!!
I’ll be here holding my breath…….

  20. Vikes will get revenge? Will this game rocket them to the Super Bowl? Uh …. no.
Favre comes back, the media trucks follow, we all get douched with hype.
And the Saints probably win. Again. And if not, so what?

  22. Gotta be one of the most anticipated season opener’s the NFL has ever had. Bret better show up in really good shape because in addition to everbody knowing he’s coming back, everybody know’s what New Orleans defense plans to do to him. Come to think of it, guess it’s more important that the Vikings O line has a real good camp!

  23. Have fun eating a 31-14 shit sandwich loss Saints fans. Last year was a fluke, you will be 8-8 next season. Or is that Sezon’ to you jack offs from the swamp?

  24. Why do you know this Bob? Why do you care?
I have no idea what the contract situation is for any Packer player. I dont even know who their backup QB is. I dont even care.

  25. brees is one cool customer….no B.S.
just kickin’ butt, and no i am not a saints or bolts fan !
and i like favre…but this is a classy statement by the current world champ !

  26. I know they like Webb, the guy they drafted this year. It sounds like he’s performing like they wanted Jackson to. He can actually throw the ball. I fully expect them to draft a QB next year and maybe sign a free agent QB or trade for a guy like Brady Quinn. Quinn has no future in Denver after they drafted Tebow. The guy has developed and he still hasn’t got an opportunity. He has to be frustrated.

    —————————————
How do you get revenge over losing the NFCCG by winning the first regular season game? You might want to set your sights a bit higher than winning one game. Try winning when it counts the most.

  29. my god queens fans are a whiny bunch. They’re still crying about losing in the playoffs. Look how pathetic they are trying to make fun of Brees’ height even. He was tall enough to beat your asses. Brees is one of the most likable, genuine guys in the league. I guess you could call him the anti-Favre.

  30. Did’nt take long for moronic packer fans to spew more of their garbage here on a story about the Saints and Vikings. What most Viking fans wonder is how this pertains to them and their team? Oh yeah, they are still mad that Brett Signed on to the team he WANTED to play for. Keep on spewing the hatred and Viking fans will still continue to laugh at you…..

  31. Brees and Favre are two class acts, the NFL needs more players like them. It should be a good game but I suspect the fans from both teams will put more emphasis on the game and in particular the outcome than will the teams themselves. It’s one game of a long season and no matter which team wins/loses, they will both be there come playoff time.

  32. Hey pervert harvin, what will your excuse(s) be this year when we whip the Vikes asses? You and that homo robert ethen start making your list now. If last year was a fluke, the Saints still have one more Super Bowl win than the Vikings do.

  33. If the Saints have another 5-1 turnover advantage (like that’ll ever happen again) they’ll have a reasonable chance of getting to OT with the Vikes again.

  34. “Did’nt take long for moronic packer fans to spew more of their garbage here on a story about the Saints and Vikings.”
Because the Packers have become irrrelevant. Favre is gone and the miserly Gay Ghost has run the team into mediocrity. So Packers fans, like residents of a ghost town, have to turn their attention to 2 franchises that still actually matter.

  35. I love how Viking fans think this game is revenge. You could win 100-0 and you still won’t get a trophy. Your crusty old QB will choke again before the season’s over.

  36. Men that wear purple….lol….enough said.
Fans that wear purple and wear blonde pigtails….lol…..enough said.
    Woulda,coulda,shouda….shut the hell up.
God himself couldn’t change the results of last season….get over it.
Prepare to get boned in the dome suckas.

  37. Nobody thinks the Saints game is “revenge”. 2009 was an awesome season for the Vikes, getting to the NFCC game was all we could have asked for especially considering it was Favre’s 1st year as QB, and 2010 we hope to go even farther.
Packer fans on the other hand are hoping for another wildcard berth and game ending hackysack kick by Erin Rodgers.

    Pathetic.

  43. Besides the outcome, one thing that will be different in the Vikes/Saints opener will be Brees getting the high/low this time from Jared Allen and Ray Edwards. Instead of walking on the field for the next series he’ll be carted off the field and will miss the next 6 games. Cheap Thug Aints won’t be getting any love from the NFL this season. 45. This game just might be the most intense Game 1 in the history of the NFL. The Vikes are trying to get revenge for blowing the NFCC game, and the Saints are sick and tired of hearing how they were just lucky. Both have a great deal of motivation to absolutely destroy the other team. Can’t Wait!!!

I like how you call the Saints “cheap thugs,” but then express a desire to see the Vikings take out Drew Brees. A bit hypocritical are we?

  49. “Drew Brees is becoming what Tim Tebow was in college. Too good and nice for his own good.”
Well, in my book, being nice is a good thing.
“I think he’s 17-15? 2 games over .500? After taking over a team coming off a conference championship game?”
i bet if Favre played that year, the Packers would’ve had the same record, The Packers in 2009 sucked except at quarterback.
“Brees and Favre are two class acts, the NFL needs more players like them”
Agree with Brees, as for Favre, as a man he’s great, but his decision making is AWFUL. He cant make up his mind on retiring or not, it’s a simple answer, if you have the itch to play football, play, if not, retire.

  50. 2009 was an awesome season for the Vikes, getting to the NFCC game was all we could have asked for especially considering it was Favre’s 1st year as QB, and 2010 we hope to go even farther
    ________________________________
Uh, actually it was his 19th year as QB. In ’96 & ’97 he was very good for the entire season, actually made it to the SB & even won one of them. Since then though, he’s kinda lost it in the games that really count. ‘Course, you know this, right?
    Bump knucks….

  51. footballrulz, sorry I meant to say 2009 was an awesome year for the Vikes especially considering it was Favre’s 1st year as QB FOR THE VIKES.
And I totally agree, you have to love QBs like Favre who have accomplished everything there is to accomplish in football including winning the Super Bowl and are still finishing in the top 3 in MVP voting and getting to the conference championship game in their 1st year with a new team. Petyon Manning has also won a Super Bowl and is good too of course but nobody will ever break Brett’s alltime records.
Are you really bumping knucks or just saying bump knucks?

  58. In response to Mack Daddy and his comment for Brett’s daughter disgracing the family name………you need to check your facts man. Brett Favre had a daughter in 1989 and he did not marry her mother until 1996. Deanna was a single mom for quite a few years until he decided to be part of their lives. So stop trash talking about his daughter…..
