The New Orleans Saints will open the season against the Minnesota Vikings on September 9, and Saints quarterback Drew Brees says he already knows whose hand he’ll shake at midfield before the coin toss.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt that Brett Favre is coming back, and he’s going to be as good as he’s ever been,” Brees told Nancy Gay of FanHouse. “We’re going to need our best game to beat him, I know that. They’re a good team. A very good team.”
Although Favre himself claims he doesn’t know whether he’s going to play this season, everyone else in and around the NFL seems to agree that Favre will be with the Vikings when the season starts.
That regular season opener, a rematch of the NFC Championship Game, has generated quite a bit of trash talk this offseason, especially between Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe and Saints safety Darren Sharper. Brees says he and his teammates are already getting excited.
“There has been some chatter back and forth between our team and their team, and I just kind of hear about it. I don’t really do much of it,” Brees said. “Listen, we know that’s going to be a big game.”
