Rams get another rookie under contract, giving them six of 11

At a time when many coaches and front-office employees are thinking about a much-needed vacation, the St. Louis Rams have been working hard to get their class of rookies under contract.

The latest?  Per a league source, Louisiana-Lafayette defensive end Hall Davis has agreed to terms, per a league source.  The Davis deal was done, we’re told, on Saturday.

On Saturday, the team worked out contracts with third-round cornerback Jerome Murphy, fifth-round tight end Michael Hoomanawanui, seventh-round defensive end George Selvie, and seventh-round linebacker Josh Hull.

On Monday, the Rams agreed to terms with fourth-round wideout Mardy Gilyard.

It remains to be seen whether the Rams intend to finish the deal in the near future.  It’s possible that they’re hoping to get all picks with the exception of first-round quarterback Sam Bradford and second-round tackle Rodger Saffold signed, sealed, and delivered before lighting the first lady finger of the Fourth of July weekend.

If so, the Rams need to sign only three more guys:  sixth-round tight end Fendi Onobun, sixth-round defensive end Eugene Sims, and seventh-round defensive back Marquis Johnson.

  1. Wow!!! How exciting!!! 6 of 11 signed before July. What a HUGE advantage for them. Because of this profound development, I predict that the Rams have 1st place all wrapped up for the Cellar of the NFC West for the 4th year in a row.

  2. This has to be a good sign that the front office is much better. The previous front office destroyed this team. There was a rumor on the http://www.stltoday.com that the Rams will have all the picks except 1st and 2nd, signed by the end of the day. The Rams are on the rise and no body in the NFC West is very scary right now. So maybe not this year, but next year they might be in the playoff hunt. GO RAMS!

  3. It’s good to see they are getting them signed. I think the Rams will be much improved. My biggest concern right now is depth at both tackle spots. Hopefully they can get a veteran through free agency.
