For the record, we’d never heard any rumors about former Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell and codeine-rich cough syrup.
Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group had.
McDonald points out via Twitter, “Wish I had a dollar for every time I got an e-mail or a tip about Russell and prescription cough syrup.”
McDonald wisely resisted writing anything about it absent proof, since doing so would have opened him up for a defamation suit that could have yielded enough cash to continue Russell’s supply of codeine-rich cough syrup indefinitely into the future.
But now McDonald and the rest of us are free to speculate about the true nature of Russell’s lethargy addiction -- the possible addiction to a substance that induces lethargy.
