Charles Woodson on Aaron Rodgers: "best quarterback in the league"

Packers cornerback Charles Woodson spends plenty of time studying film of the league’s top quarterbacks. But he says the best of the bunch is the one on his own team.

In an interview with 106.7 The Fan in Washington, D.C., Woodson said he believes Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback in the league, and that Rodgers has been underrated because the Packers’ offensive line hasn’t done a good enough job protecting him.

“As far as A-Rod is concerned, I told the Monday Night crew last year, I said, ‘If this guy, if they protect him the way he needs to be protected, he’s the best quarterback in the league,’ and I stand by that,” Woodson said, per SportsRadioInterviews.com. “If you look at last season, you take a guy that had over 50 sacks that still threw over 4,000 yards, that’s incredible.”

In fairness to the Packers’ offensive line, some of those sacks are more the result of Rodgers holding onto the ball too long than a lack of protection. But even if Woodson is slightly overstating Rodgers’ abilities, it has to feel good for Rodgers to know that the team’s defensive leader thinks so highly of him.

Woodson also spoke out about Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, saying that in the NFL, “the consensus is that nobody can understand how you can get $100 million and not work.” And Woodson says that even though he’ll turn 34 this season, “I could easily give you five more years.”

  1. BAHAHAHAHHAHAH! Yea ok, nice try Woodson.
Oh by the way – for all those Packer fans who think its ok to throw around ’12 championships’ like it means anything today let me put something in perspective for you…Packers havent done a damn thing lately. Those championships happened during your grandfathers prime.
Bragging about those ancient championships is like saying “My grandfater stormed the beaches at Normandy so that means I am the toughest SOB to walk the earth today”. Sorry kid but no it does not…

  2. Peyton would be laughing right now, but he’s too busy being the best quarterback in the league.

  3. I am sick of these stories. Rogers is very good and his team mate has every right to think he is the best. It doesn’t mean he is the best.

  4. Contra above must be a Vikings fan. He clearly sees the glass as half empty.

  5. I saw him in a little local bar here in GB. He was drinking Hennessy (of course on the house because he knew the owner, which I don’t get why the richest guy by far gets free expensive drinks, but that’s a whole different animal). But it was funny, the NFL network was on airing some like 2004 Packers/Vikes game, and the more tipsy he got he started breaking down coverages, where players were supposed to be, and what plays the offense was running. He is unbelievably bright and that is the difference between first year players and vets like him. So his evaluation of Quarterbacks, while maybe a little biased, should be pretty spot on.

  6. Like he was going to say some other QB was the best in the league….sigh…July sucks!

  7. Why wasnt lavar arrington and chad dukes mentioned in the article? They were the ones who did the interview. Come on florio, throw the boys a bone.

  8. IF I remember correctly, he said Roethlisberger was the best QB in the league after a postgame interview. He torched the packers for 500 yards last year.

  9. I’m a Vikings fan, but I do have to say that Rodgers is a hell of a quarterback. I love playing him twice a season. Especially when Jared Allen get 7.5 sacks in those two games like last year.

  10. if 12 championships doesnt matter….why play the games? is the only champ worth talking about the most recent one? why not be proud of what the organization has accomplished? haters….

  11. I think that Rogers was “Mischaracterized” by Woodson in this article nothing against Rogers but in todays NFL i would say Top 5 no chance at Peytons title

  12. Contra says:
“Oh by the way – for all those Packer fans who think its ok to throw around ’12 championships’ like it means anything today let me put something in perspective for you…Packers havent done a damn thing lately. Those championships happened during your grandfathers prime. ”

Compared to the Vikings who have won A LOT of Championships recently.

  13. @Contra
How many championships do the Vikings have? Yeah, they were close last year, but it took a Packer to get them there.

  14. That’s a great first post Contra….if it had anything to do with this article.
I wouldn’t say Rodgers is the best QB in the league just yet because he hasn’t wont anything. But if he is at all consistent with what he produced in his 1st two seasons as a starter there is no question he will win something before his career is over.
Oh yea, and btw, the Packers have won 12 championships, they’re the best team ever, they’re a franchise that is like a kid out there, so it goes…..glad Woodson brought that up in his interview.

  15. You all sound very suprised that a teammate would say his quarterback is the best. I like thi say he is top 5.
Oh, and Contra- 12 championships baby, 12.

  16. Woodson is supporting and giving props to his QB. Big deal. Good for him. One mans opinion.
Maybe Brandon Marshall will come out and say Chad Henne is the best…
    Contra –
So with that being said, you probably shouldnt say a whole lot ever huh? Pack made it just as far in 2007 as the Vikings did last year….
No one is talking about championships here…but since you brought it up, yeah the Pack has a nice trophy case…the Vikes, ehhh…a little dusty. 😉

  17. Of course a guy is going to say his teammate is the best so-and-so in the league. These stories aren’t stories.

  18. I agree with Woodson about Rodgers – taking into consideration what Rodgers has accomplished in just two ‘starting’ seasons as QB is quite good…. 58 passing td’s, 9 rushing td’s with only 20 ints behind a very porous offensive line is about as good as one can be !!!

  19. No way Aaron Rogers is better than Peyton Manning.
    But…
I’d love to see Peyton Manning play behind the Packers’ line. There’d be a whole lot of temper tantrums on the sideline between series.

  20. Yeah….5 more years. Riiiiiigght. But Rodgers is a very good QB, no doubt.

  21. Contra… you must be a Queens fan. You are right, the twelve championships are somewhat outdated. Let me ask you something though, how many championships has your squad won in your lifetime? Duhkay. Finally, enjoy Chilly.

  22. Jeff Blake flirted with 4,000 yards when he was with Cincinnati in ’95 and ’96 despite being sacked as many as 44 times (96).
Or how about Neil Lomax with over 4,600 yards and 49 sacks in ’84?
Were they the best in the league? Since when did yardage/sacks ratio become the gauge for measuring a QB’s greatness?

  23. contra: 1996 championship. not the 1920’s. ie: not a grandpa’s time.
    diagnosis: you’re stupid.

  24. Ok contra….we haven’t won 12 championships in a while…but we did go to 2 Superbowls in the 90’s and won one of”em. We have also made the playoffs almost every year for the past 17 years.
So to recap…that’s 7 division titles, 2 conference championships, and 1 Superbowl in my era. (I’m 28).
And we made the playoffs 12 of the past 17 years. I’m not saying we are the best ever…ah F$%K it…yes I am!
    GO PACK, GO!

  25. @Contra
Don’t you respect the guys that stormed the beaches at Normandy? I sure do. If they hadn’t, you might be goose stepping and listening to Vikings games broadcast in German.
Respect history and those that came before you. It’s the right thing to do.
And besides, I’d rather have titles that people can claim don’t matter, than to have no titles.
    SCOREBOARD!!

  26. Aaron Rodgers is certainly quite an up-and-coming star, but I wouldn’t call him the best in the league, not yet.
Woodson playing for another five years is perhaps the most interesting comment in that interview.
    EGOutreach ~ http://www.srgservice.com/books

  27. I’ll just say, I love Rodgers, but I’m not sure he’s the best QB. Tough to put them over Manning and Brady just yet.
However, I respect Woodson’s opinion. If I had to guess, there are a couple things in particular (long ball for sure) that Rodgers does really well that not many, if any, other QB’s can do….Manning and Brady included.
Coming for a Packer fan, as long as Manning and Brady are in the league there’s no way Rodgers can be considered the top QB with until he’s got a ring on his finger.

  28. As Rick James said…”cocaine is a hell of a drug!”
Time to sober up, Charles. You’re dillusional

  29. Packers players sure talk a big game. Superbowl, best QB, hell I bet they also have the best defense and WR’s if you ask the right guy. Nice of Charlie to throw the oline under the bus though I’m sure they appreciate that.
Rodgers sacks, much like their overtime playoff loss, are a result of his holding the ball as much as his line not blocking. Their o-line sucks sure but their WR core is one of the best in the league which obviously helped his numbers just as much.
Rodgers was 4th in the league in yards per attempt and QB rating. Damn impressive but to say he’s the best is just homerism. And seeing how he was an epic failure in that playoff game I’m not even sure he’s one of the 15 best in a big game. He seems to play scared in big moments.

  30. So he said good things about his teammate and bad things about a guy on another team.
    News?

  31. “In fairness to the Packers’ offensive line, some of those sacks are more the result of Rodgers holding onto the ball too long than a lack of protection….”
And in fairness to A. Rodgers he held on to the ball too long because he enjoys the feeling of grown men jumping on top of him and grinding him into the field.

  33. Of course everyone is gonna bash this article saying “Manning, Brees, Brady, Rivers….blah blah blah.” Truth is Woodson knows first hand how good he is and he’s been playing against the best QBs in the game for 10+ years. He knows what he’s talking about. After this season, Rodgers will start to get the respect he deserves. 10 years from now, NFL fans will be saying, thanks to the 49ers, the Packers were a dynasty led by Aaron Rodgers, League MVP 5-8 times, with 6 SB rings!
    Go Pack!!!

  34. How bout that, a teamate who believes in his quaterback and speaks his mind. More power to him. I don’t think anyone could argue Rodgers can run with any of em. Say what you want about the playoff game but he put up some crazy points – and as far as the mistakes, what about Favre NFC championship game, Manning superbowl…etc etc

  35. Umm, you can take any QB with a decent arm and if you protect him long enough, he can consistently get the ball to a WR or TE if they’re open. It ain’t rocket science. It’s pitch and catch.

  36. Mr Woodcock says – “If this guy, if they protect him the way he needs to be protected, he’s the best quarterback in the league” & “I could easily give you five more years.”
For God’s sake Woodcock, lay off Jolly’s syrup supply!!!! That is the most delusional shit I ever heard! What next? Bigfoot is in Madison???

  37. an idiotic comment because rodgers cant touch peyton yet but woodson has always been a pro and a great player. id gladly take him on my team, even at 34.

  38. Can’t really argue with him, 50 sacks is brutal.
    Bienvenidos Sr. Bulaga

  39. You would think Woodson’s favorite QB would be Jay Cutler, Lord knows he catches a lot of passes from Cutler.
Seriously though, what is he supposed to say? In the NFL today there is Manning, Brady, Brees, and then everybody else. Plain and simple.

  40. Contra:
A fitting moniker. 12 Championships is still 12 Championships. How many titles does your team have? I would venture a guess that it is ZERO. Or perhaps, 0-4 like the Bills and the Viqueens.
Comparing the championships to storming the beaches at Normandy on 6/4/1944 is no comparision. The men that took to the beaches are far more honorable than any NFL title. Those men were heroes and deserve our heartfelt thanks for their efforts and sacrifices, period.
I don’t know who you are, but without our brave soldiers doing their best on that day and beyond, we would not be who we are. The best nation in the world, hands down.
    Ok, I’m done ranting.

  41. Enough with the A-Rod name already. The kid has a real name. But if u must, I think P-Man is the best at the moment….

  42. @ Contra, did you forget about Super Bowls in ’97/98? Did you forget about GB making the playoffs 12 times in the last 16 years? Did you forget about our OT NFC championship loss in 07? Please. The Packers are a top 3 team over the last 15 years in terms of win/loss. They have done quite a bit.

  43. Sounds like somebody who knows what he’s talking about. Somebody who has “been there…done that,”…in every sense of phrase. Any other opinion from the inevitable Packer-haters is really just a waste of time on this thread, isn’t it?

  44. contra: the packers won the SB in 96. Not our grandparents time. math, contra. contra, math. you two should meet.

  45. The pigskin to porn comparison…..
    Peyton Manning= John Holmes
    Brett Favre= Peter North
Aaron Rodgers= the cheap slut, always on his back after taking it from behind….

  46. @ Derek Stephens
A-Rod isn’t the best for his yard/sack ratio… it’s more his 35 total touchdowns compared to his 9 total turnovers. That’s elite level.

  47. Contra…..since your grandpa’s time. Do you mean your favorite QB in Minny…and your messiah’s time?
    That’s what I thought.
And Derek, back to back 4,000+ yard passing seasons after taking over for a living legend….albeit a mental midget…..in Favre is why he considered amongst the best. Go back to your stat book and dig up some new garbage.
If by gay you mean dating three of the hottest women on the planet over the course of the last two years, then I’m coming out of the closet. Idiots……..

and let’s not forget transitioning qb’s with no drop off during said stretch of bad assery.

  49. @ Derek, it wasnt, he was just adding to his point, read the whole story, and no one is impressed with your knowledge of no name QBs from the past.
and i like how Contra aint here to back his big mouth up or to tell everyone who his team is.

  50. Typo on my part. June 6, 1944, not June 4, 1944. However, there were moves taking place prior to the main invasion force on 6/6/1944. Sorry about the typo, but I stand by my comments to Contra.
When I get on a rant that really pisses me off, sometimes the brain works faster than the typing fingers. Again, I apologize for the typo.

Obviously — that’s why the Vikings did so well with Jeff George!

  52. “Tough to put them over Manning and Brady just yet.”
Tough to put him in the top 10 yet so let’s not compare him to guys who’ve actually done something with their careers. GB is the trendy pick to win the SB so that should be a good indicator that they’ll be lucky to win 9 games this year. Total. If Peter King is picking them, then the rest of the league can breath easy.
This team doesn’t scare anyone and neither does their QB.

  54. Sounds to me as if Packers fans have finally moved on from their homo man love for Favre. Now they’re touting Rodgers as the best in the NFL like they did Favre for so many years, even though he was not. Another good year from Rodgers and Packer fans will be calling him the best of all time. It’s what they do. They don’t have much to live for up there so they go to extremes with their player worship.

  55. db3300:
let’s hear this top 10 qb list without rodgers on it.
please include Mcnabb. then we can schedule an MRI for ya. to check brain activity etc.

  56. Ok first off I am not disrespecting any of our brave soldiers that stormed Normandy. I am just making a comparison in logic according to Packer fans. I have nothing but respect for our men and women in uniform both past and present.
What I am saying is that Packer fans love to bring up the past as if they earned it. No, who cares what you did in the past. Nobody cares at all! What have you done now!? What have you done lately!?

  57. Packer fan here. Saying Rodgers is the best in the league. Hmmmm…… maybe a stretch. Certainly amoung the best. But THE best?

  58. contra:

but it looks like the elite wants us to speak pidgin spanish or ebonics.
rodgers is pretty good, and he is why the pack decided they were tired of brettany’s antics.

  60. and what else was woodson suppose to say, in other words, a worthless news item. It would be more interesting if all interviews were to ask who is the best player at such and such a position other than your own teammates. as an aside to woodson’s remarks, Archie Manning had fantastic stats to but I bet he would trade them all for what his two sons have…..SB rings . As for Woodson, the only way he could play another 5 years is if the officials continue to look the other way when he is holding the wr’s. he is the most overrated db…..doesn’t hold a candle to revis, joseph, etc. etc.

I’ve seen my Packer team win a Super Bowl in my lifetime. Have you? L is for LOSER!

  62. I’ll give Rodgers top 8 status so far, but he’s got a couple of years to go before he’s even in the discussion for “the best in the NFL.” We couldn’t settle this debate the last 10 years with Manning & Brady, so doubtful we’ll ever know the true “best QB” in the league at any moment. Rodgers is pretty good at this stage? But the BEST? Woodson may wanna tone down his comments, because statements like that can get you drug-tested.

  63. Rodgers is very similar to Brees circa 2006. He might be very good right now, but without playoff wins and a Super Bowl ring, he won’t ever be the best nor should he be considered as such.
As for now, it’s Brees and Peyton, with Brees getting the slight nod. Brady is past his time and seems unlikely to get back there.

  64. Contra:

  66. At least Woodson is talking good about his QB and not Bashing him. In might be a little hyperbolic but at least he has good things to say. It is kind of good to think you have the Best QB, an dyou will go to the SUper Bowl this year. It’s not like Woodson plays for Detroit and is claiming to have the best QB or he will make it to the Super Bowl. At least the Pack has a shot at it. Via wild card of course, Da Bears are taking the North this year…….

  67. sand0 –
    Good post.
I begrudgingly agree with most of it, with the exception of Rodgers playing scared. He’s not shy about running the ball, and he takes plenty of hits because of it. The playoff loss was on the defense, not Rodgers. He was brilliant until the final play, and didn’t get rattled when the Pack was down 17 out of the gate.
And Contra – way to live up to your reputation. Again.

  70. Rodgers has been good the past 2 years, but he’s not Brady, Brees, or Manning. He’s good. I’d put him, Rivers, Schaub, and McNabb at the next level. But, being a teammate, you always say your guy is the best.

  71. Hey Dipshits
The very last team to be NFL Champions before the AFL/NFL merger was
Yes you guessed it the Minnesota Vikings
So technically it is 1 championship even though they lost the Super Bowl
Between 1966 and the merger in 1970, the NFL champions would go on to play the AFL champions in Super Bowls I, II, III, and IV.
Rodgers is a great player & nobody would not want him on their team. He is awesome.
That being said I hope the Vikings win the SuperBowl.

  72. “At least the Pack has a shot at it. Via wild card of course, Da Bears are taking the North this year…….”
    —————–
The Bears worry me more than the Vikes, I’ll give you that. Don’t know if Martz has the horses on offense to make his system work though.

  73. Aaron Rodgers is one of the top 6 QBs in the league as of today. I think it speaks pretty well for a second year starter. In about 5 years I believe he will be one of the top 3 (Matt Ryan & Philip Rivers?) QBs in the league. Woodson hits it on the head, if the line can give him more time, he will be that much more efficient as the QB. GB also did a great job of transitioning from HOF qb to a first year starter. Miami, Denver, Buffalo, are still looking. It will also be interesting to see if teams like Philly and Arizona are going to be so lucky.

Funny you should say that. the last SB win you had it took
    1 a Falcon = Favre
    2 Eagles = White, K.Jackson
    3 A Raider Executive = R. Wolf
I would think you get the picture by now…..
Grow up! It’s the FA era, players change teams.
Your comment is about as asinine as it gets.

  77. Why can’t everyone in here stop arguing? The FACT still remains that Tom Brady is the best QB ever. And the best looking too.

  78. I wouldn’t say he’s the best yet. Right now he’s 3rd behind Brees and Manning. Yes he’s better than Brady.

  79. most packer fans are classless…..
i have said it before not one time has anyone given any kind of reasonable justification for them not tobe. in short for the most of 20 years the packers could hardly score points much less win a game. then mike and brett show up. yes the packers did win a superbowl with them. when each of them left they became hated. when brett broke dans td record at the dome almost all vikings fans congratulated him. brett basically gets fired by your team but he wants to play still and joins the jets. all over youtube is brett favre packer burning jersey videos. most are posted before the jets releast him.
by the way the vikings did win at least 1 nfl championship. or is drinking your sisters pee blocking facts from your brains

  80. I am a die hard Packer fan and Rodgers is one hell of a quarterback but he isn’t the best in the league quite yet. He is clearly among the top 5 but I put him ahead of Brees and Manning right now. However, if he keeps on playing like he has been for the next 2-3 years, he has a very high chance of becoming the best in the league. But as of right now, there is still a little more work to be done before calling him the best.

    ————————————————–
Dbellina, what a pretty name. Would you like to come polish my Viking horn? Brady won’t mind,I just texted him….

  82. Let me say that I don’t even think Rodgers is in the top 5 QB’s and I’m a Packer fan. But here is the point, as Trent Dilfer has proven, you don’t need to be in the top 5 to win a Superbowl.
And speaking of winning Superbowls, something the Vikings have never done (0-4 for those keeping score at home), its even more important that your QB doesn’t give a playoff game away, something BrINT has been prone to do for the last decade. And 2010 isn’t looking too promising either for the old grey beard and his cross dressing coach.

  83. Right now you’ve still got to go with Brady and Manning. Then there’s a group of five or so, Brees, Favre, Rivers, Roethlisberger, Rodgers that are the 1A group. You can’t really separate those guys. Different offense lines, receivers, offensive philosophies.
These best of arguments can never be settled.

  84. J Dub,
Woodson didn’t say “among the best”…he said “the best.”
Not arguing with the former, but certainly don’t agree with the latter.
And I’m not the one digging up statistical “garbage” as you say. Woodson went there first.
    Read the article, genius.

  85. vacman, you just said
    “most packer fans are classless….
    followed by
“or is drinking your sisters pee blocking facts from your brains.”
What a complete, absolute waste of skin and a disgrace to your family you are. How’s that for class?

  86. Well, when you think about it. Who knows? Rodgers is only 26 years old, so he’s sure got a shot at being the best QB in the league at some point. Peyton Manning wasn’t unquestionably the best in the biz at 26 (even if, in reality he was) and neither was Favre or Brady. The NFL media and fan only seem to recognize true greatness in a QB after it’s been going on for a while. You have to give Rodgers a pretty good chance at being the best of the current generation of young guns at QB (Leinart is 27, Vince Young is 27, Jay Cutler is 27, Matt Ryan is 25, Joe Flacco is 25, etc.)

  87. Good to see a player compliment another but i would say top 4…not three…Brady, manning, brees then “a rod”

  88. I’m a big Rodgers fan, but Woodson is a little out of line — he forgot a large word in his sentence…
“As far as A-Rod is concerned, I told the Monday Night crew last year, I said, ‘If this guy, if they protect him the way he needs to be protected, he’s the best FANTASY quarterback in the league,’ and I stand by that,” Woodson said.
This I would agree with, give me Rodgers over Brees, Brady, Manning, Rivers in any fantasy league.

  89. Mrsteve,
That’s a bit of a reach, isn’t it? Although they still called themselves the NFL and AFL until 1970, the two sides agreed to a merger and common draft long before that, in 1966, which resulted in the Super Bowl and common draft. Other than the Vikings own website you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone that refers to that 1970 Minnesota team as NFL champions.

  90. Hey JimmySmith:
Read the last paragraph. The queens have won nothing, they will never win anything. They, like the Bearse, SUCK. Still SUCK and will always SUCK.
As I recall, KC kicked the BeJesus out of you in SB IV 23-7. Get a clue moron.
NFL Championships during the Super Bowl era
The number in parentheses indicates the number of championships the franchise has won and the number of times a particular location has hosted the game.

Between 1966 and the merger in 1970, the NFL champions would go on to play the AFL champions in Super Bowls I, II, III, and IV.

  91. Rodgers is the sh it!! Great QB in the making, I would like to know how the NFC North division will be standing in a few years, where will the Vikes be at QB while Green Bay is set in that position. I would be a little Nervous Vike fans an uh yeah what the he ll have the Vikes ever won anyway???

  92. Bulaga will blow out his thyroid trying to block Jared.
Don’t worry pack fans, the vikes have a tendency to play down to their competition at times which should give you some hope this year and maybe a split.

  93. Contra says:
No, who cares what you did in the past. Nobody cares at all! What have you done now!? What have you done lately!?
Spoken like a true loser of a terrible franchise. Are you sensing the irony in your statements? It’s as thick as your skull.

  94. Wow! This story hasn’t even been up an hour and already over 100 postings! I wonder what brett’s going to say later today to try to trump this? Maybe he could reach out to jamarcus or something. You gotta figure he’s looking to get under A-Rods skin any way he can since his dethroaning. So glad he’s where he belongs now. Amongst the rest of the BORN LOSERS.

  95. Rodgers holds the best QB rating of all time at 97.2 (Second is Steve Young at 96.8). But don’t let facts interfere in your theory, people… No, I don’t think he IS the best QB in the league, but, like Woodson actually said, he CAN BE the best, if he’s protected properly.
As far as Manning goes, if he wins, he’s the bomb, if he loses, it’s the OL’s fault, or the receiver dropped the pass, or the D didn’t help… He’s a great QB, but unless he stops blaming his teammates for the failure, he’s never gonna be the best of all time.
And as far as the queens, land of a thousand lakes and zero superbowls…

    Brett Favre= Peter North
Aaron Rodgers= the cheap slut, always on his back after taking it from behind….

    pervy harvin:
Not sure what kind of porn you are watching…..must be some sort of Queens fan thing…..

  97. As a Saints fan, how is he the best qb in the league when Green Bay was scared to let Rodgers compete against Favre in training camp… Pssssst they knew he wouldn’t win out.
Brees says hi anyway. That skid mark on his face is the reason for his greatness. Most accurate QB ever (holds the record) 2nd qb to ever throw for 5000 yards, 0 interceptions in his quest throughout the playoffs to win the superbowl, where he was the MVP.
By the way, one thing I can agree with on Viking fans is that Green Bay is always overrated. Woodson is overrated, winning defensive MVP padding his stats vs Arizona 2nd stringers. Zona put up huge numbers when they really played. Saints put up 51 pts on MNF vs Woodson and Harris in the season before this one.

  98. I am surprised that Rogers is not playing in the World Cup after the way he kicked the football to Dansby.

    ===============
Actually Reggie’sbush, I believe the Packers offered to let Favre come back and compete for his job. That’s when he came back, cleaned out his locker, and got out of town as fast as he could. He was afraid to compete with Rodgers, and after watching Rodgers first two seasons under center, I can’t say I blame him.

  101. “…Yes you guessed it the Minnesota Vikings
So technically it is 1 championship even though they lost the Super Bowl…”

W.T.F! Gotta be a Queenie. Let me see, technically the Pack lost the ’97 Super Bowl but I guess the can claim that as a Championship huh?

    Brilliant.

    NFL CHAMPIONSHIPS

    Green Bay 12
    Minnesota 0

    Live with it!

  102. “Oh by the way – for all those Packer fans who think its ok to throw around ’12 championships’ like it means anything today let me put something in perspective for you…”
    ———————————–
Truly spoken from one who hasn’t won anything on his own. Your envy is clear… Championships are simply that, don’t try to diminish them due to their age.
Those teams who have team should be proud period… those who don’t whine about why they don’t.

  103. “If you look at last season, you take a guy that had over 50 sacks that still threw over 4,000 yards, that’s incredible.”
Big Ben did the same thing last year, beat Aaron Rodgers with GB’s #2 defense while amassing 503 yards, and won 2 SBs. (hey guys I thought you couldn’t be a good QB with a good D. Sound familiar? Aww poor guys proved wrong again). Aaron Rodgers is not the best QB but a damn good one and definitely top 5.

  104. Contra, Rodgers is not the best QB in the league but he is damn good. And the Packers developed him to be very good. Your precious Vikings can’t say the same thing. They had to bring in a certain former Packer who is holding your team hostage because he can’t make up his mind.
I’ve heard from numerous Vikings fans that they believe that had Rodgers been the Queens’ quarterback they would have won the Super Bowl. But your stuck with the INT machine.
So sorry. We’ll take Rodgers coming into his prime. You can have Gramps, T-Jack or whoever else you bring in.

  105. Best QB in the league? Erin is not even better than Flacco who already has 3 playoff wins under his belt in only his 2nd season in the NFL.

  106. fatzilla says:

    LMAO!!

  107. “Why can’t everyone in here stop arguing? The FACT still remains that Tom Baby Brady is the best QB ever. And the best looking too.”
    = yellow drank drinker.

  108. Woodson is biased. To go out and say “our QB is the best” is no different than Barnett saying “we’ll win the super bowl”.
Sure, Rodgers is a good QB. Packers are a good team. They finished second in their division and made the playoffs and held their first opponent, an offensive juggernaut, to under 60 points.
But they aren’t good enough to call best qb and superbowl. That is just blowhard packer talk all the way from the fans to the players. If I were to rank the Packers today I’d have them as the 4th or 5th best team in the NFC. And if Rodgers gets sacked 50 times they might just be down the only QB on their roster with a meaningful NFL snap.

  109. I would take Manning, Brees, Brady, Rivers, Schaub, maybe even Romo, Big Ben the Rapist, and McNabb before Rodgers.
It’s just a dude propping up his boy. Rodgers is a legitimate top-ten guy.

  110. OK…Ruvell, Gobias, Super, Ambrose, Pack4, mattsgo, and all the rest of you listen up, I’m only gonna say this once!
Aaron Rodgers is not a great quarterback! He is a great STATS quarterback. He’s a great FANTASY quarterback. That just proves one thing, he SUCKS!
He has NOT WON A SUPERBOWL!!
If you don’t win the superbowl, and you have great numbers, you stink, and what’s worse, you’re killing your team! Don’t you guys know anything? The worst thing a quarterback can do is throw for 4000+ yards and over 30 touchdowns, and not win the superbowl, unless you do it your first TWO years as a starter, which is much, much worse.
That’s because if you do it two years in a row, it also proves you’re gay! And not just a little gay, but real, hardcore, flaming gay! Not just Contra at home alone with a banana skin he heated in the oven while his mom was at the airport gay, but full on Pervy Harvin turning every post into an excuse to describe guy on guy sex acts gay!
Let’s all hope that Rodgers has some six pick games this year so we can have a shot at winning it all.

  111. Number of decades without a winning season
    Packers : 2
    Vikings : 0
Number of year in existence / Number of playoff game appearances
    Packers : 89 : 41
    Vikings : 49 : 45

  112. aaron rodgers, who dat?
Drew Brees is the best qb on the best team in the league. Hands down. What has aaron rodgers done that Brees has not? Brees is in his prime for the next 5 or so years, Saints will win many more superbowls during this stretch. We have the best secondary group(young), best o line(young), best qb, top 3 receiver group, talented rb’s, and an opportunistic D, top coaches gregg williams and sean payton, curtis johnson wr coach….
you will not look forward to playing us this year
    bow down to your masters
    who dat!!

  113. He has how many playoff victories, Super Bowl appearances and Super Bowl rings??

  114. Stay with your guy CW I get that
I am a Packer Fan and I ratem like this
    P Manning
    D Brees
    T Brady
    A Rodgers
    B Roethlisberger

  115. @Bluestree- When you take a step back and really think about it, you’re absolutely right. Thanks for putting us in the right frame of mind. At the end of the day, Rodgers 448 yard, 5 TD performance in the playoffs is nothing I want any part of. Sure, he puts up the numbers, but it only resulted in a mere 35 points in the second half.
Give me the good old days when I could count on a 55 QB rating at home (Atlanta), or 6 picks (Rams), or 4 picks (Minnesota at home), or a few game-crushing INTs in OT (Philly, Giants). Better yet, I’ll take the 29 pick year in 05. The 4-12 record was just the icing on the cake.

  116. 128 posts already? More proof the Packers and Aaron Rodgers are the biggest thing in football. Look for this one to be the most commented on story of all time!! Keep on hating Viking fans, maybe it’ll win you a trophy.

  117. Packers believing Packers…I love it. Now if only Ted Thompson would follow suit and be openly gay like Aaron Rodgers.

  118. LOL
I didnt even bother to read the article. I just read the title and that was enough.

  119. Celebrating a Super Bowl win is great…I’ve done it. The day after is filled with so much happiness. But Vikings fans don’t know this feeling. Cuz they lose.
I also know the happiness I felt when Farve threw the INT in last year’s NFC Championship game. My best guess is Vikings fans felt something the polar opposite. And that made me giddy.
12x World Champions! Makes Vikings fans envious, what a pitiful thing!

  120. Aaron Rodgers is best QB in the NFL and the first openly gay NFL quarterback. Green Bay fans and boys all over are pulling for you Aaron!
    Go PACK!

  121. Speaking of championship trophies. How many trophies are in the Vikings trophy case? None…they don’t have a trophy case.

  122. Ah, Ruvell, 29 picks! It just makes my heart sink. I just don’t think ARod has got it in him.

  123. wow Charles Woodson says Sharon Rodgers is the best quarterback?? No kidding!! I also heard on the news today that Al Sharpton said that Barrack Obama is the best president ever as well…

  124. bluestree says: I am gay for Pervy but he is not gay…..my loss. Plenty Packer fans to choose from!

  125. Gotta love how all of a sudden everyone’s a saint’s fan….stealing bengal chants and everything.

  126. LOL at the number of posts bashing Contra. He must be the most commented on poster by others, all of whom bashed his moronic statements.

  127. “Gotta love how all of a sudden everyone’s a saint’s fan….stealing bengal chants and everything.”
Agreed. Saint fans act like they have loved their team through thick and thin when in reality, they are all just a bunch of bandwagoners. I never knew how annoying they were until this past season with their lame “Who Dat” chant thing.

  128. “Green Bay is always overrated. Woodson is overrated, winning defensive MVP padding his stats vs Arizona 2nd stringers. ”
Sure he had a good game against Arizona’s 2nd stringers but when he did go up against 1st stringers in the 15 other games, he still played outstanding.
Typical Saints fan. Acting like they know everyone about football when in reality, they make Viking ‘fans’ look smart.

Really? Is this really all you’ve got? That’s it? That’s your best trash? You are boring and with no trace of originality. Give it up already…..you and your gay-obsessed “buddies.” You doth protest too much…if you catch my drift.

  130. Contra – gay
pervy – 10 year old gay
    f of f – fat and gay
    your all morons

  131. If C-Wood is studying film it’s a habit he only recently picked up. I absolutely love the guy, but he was notorious for NOT studying in Oakland, falling asleep in meetings and getting by on his freakish atleticism and toughness. Ask Nnamdi who watches more film than Ebert if C-Wood does lots of film study.

  132. Nope Skimbell you can claim NFC champions
Starting from SuperBowl V it was a new league

The thing of it is, why would anyone care if some anonomyous posters think we are gay? I mean really?!
Id rather be gay than be a packer fan, but, I’m not either of them.
That the gay remarks bothers you is amusing.

  134. “He has NOT WON A SUPERBOWL!!”
Dude, he hasn’t even won a playoff game.

  135. YO BIGRIG:
2009: Vikes and Favre 2wins, packers and rodgers = 2 losses.
    Umm….SCOREBOARD!!!!!!!
Get in the now…..heck AT LEAST get in the last 40 years pack fans…..congrats you have exactly 1 SB more than the Vikes since what 1967????
My god, the league had like 4 or 6 teams with leather helmets back in the 30s and 40s.
Big woop……modern football my goodness…….gee I guess if you want to get technical, the Vikes have won an NFL title…..1969 BABEEEEEE!!
That’s right…..we have just as many NFL Championships as the pukers since 1969!!!!!

  136. “And seeing how he was an epic failure in that playoff game I’m not even sure he’s one of the 15 best in a big game. He seems to play scared in big moments. ”
Hmm, let’s examine this. He passed for 423 yards, 4 TDs and only 1 interception. He led the offense to overcome a 21 point deficit to force overtime and put up 45 points. And the only mistake he made in overtime was putting a tad too much on that long throw to Jennings. The refs missed two obvious peronal foul penalties in that last series, and the rest is history.

  137. “Right now you’ve still got to go with Brady and Manning. Then there’s a group of five or so, Brees, Favre, Rivers, Roethlisberger, Rodgers that are the 1A group. You can’t really separate those guys. Different offense lines, receivers, offensive philosophies. ”
To me, the best QB in the league is the guy you want on your team for the upcoming season. I’d put Manning and Brees at a tie for the top spot. After those two, the case for Rodgers as the next best QB is as strong as anyone else’s. I would think that Favre will take at least a small step back this year, and Brady is on the decline. As far as the other young guys go, Rivers, Schaub and Romo are all great QBs and anyone of them could have a better year than Rodgers, but I’d take my chances with Rodgers out all those guys.

  138. First Contra is a queens fan. Second I always get kicked off for talking about him. My last one being he is the best reason to continue allowing abortion. (I guess that was pretty much the reason I guess.) Still I don’t think Rodgers is the best qb. Neither are Brady or Manning though. If I had to say I guess Brees is the best right now. Favre, Manning, and Brady are all washed up. Oh and Rapelisberger was never in the contest to begin with.

  139. contra and all u other rodgers haters out there who don’t think he’s the best QB in the NFL, wanna tell me who is now? superbowl mvp not enough evidence i’ll make any bet the packers win it all again this year behind the BEST QB IN THE NFL. and for the other idiot who was judging him on his FIRST playoff game that he threw 5 TDs in and lost it on a crazy play in overtime…how about finishing off the season on a 6 game winning streak as a 6th seed wild card putting the team on his shoulders and carrying them past the best teams in the league almost single handedly. peace out
