Charles Woodson on Aaron Rodgers: “best quarterback in the league”

Packers cornerback Charles Woodson spends plenty of time studying film of the league’s top quarterbacks. But he says the best of the bunch is the one on his own team.

In an interview with 106.7 The Fan in Washington, D.C., Woodson said he believes Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback in the league, and that Rodgers has been underrated because the Packers’ offensive line hasn’t done a good enough job protecting him.

“As far as A-Rod is concerned, I told the Monday Night crew last year, I said, ‘If this guy, if they protect him the way he needs to be protected, he’s the best quarterback in the league,’ and I stand by that,” Woodson said, per SportsRadioInterviews.com. “If you look at last season, you take a guy that had over 50 sacks that still threw over 4,000 yards, that’s incredible.”

In fairness to the Packers’ offensive line, some of those sacks are more the result of Rodgers holding onto the ball too long than a lack of protection. But even if Woodson is slightly overstating Rodgers’ abilities, it has to feel good for Rodgers to know that the team’s defensive leader thinks so highly of him.

Woodson also spoke out about Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, saying that in the NFL, “the consensus is that nobody can understand how you can get $100 million and not work.” And Woodson says that even though he’ll turn 34 this season, “I could easily give you five more years.”
