Chargers sign third-round pick Donald Butler

The Chargers announced today that they’ve agreed to a four-year contract with third-round draft pick Donald Butler.

San Diego didn’t have a second-round pick, so Butler, an inside linebacker from Washington, was the second player they chose in this year’s draft class. Butler is a talented athlete but is regarded as a bit of a project who’s more likely to contribute on special teams than on defense as a rookie.

The Chargers have also officially announced, as we noted earlier, that they’ve signed fifth-round pick Cam Thomas. They’ve now signed five of their six draft picks, with only first-round selection Ryan Mathews remaining unsigned.
