Jon Gruden returns to coaching, sort of

Jon Gruden has a dilemma. He loves to get his Chucky on, telling football players what they’re doing wrong and what they need to do to fix it. But he can’t do it from the three-man booth at Monday Night Football, lest he potentially burn bridges in an industry with only 32 possible destinations.

So Gruden has found a way to feed the monster by concocting via his ESPN employment opportunities to tell football players what they’re doing wrong and what they need to do to fix it.

Gruden spent the offseason working as offensive line coach with Carrollwood Day High School in Tampa. With ESPN cameras present.

So here comes Chucky, showing 32 NFL owners that he still can bring the heat, just like he did during those pre-draft sessions with a quartet of quarterbacks -- which in the process potentially reduced the draft stock of Jimmy Clausen.

The three-part series will air on SportsCenter on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

And, unlike Gruden at the draft, the SportsCenter special most likely will show up for the third day.
