Haynesworth, Shanahan exchange words after failed conditioning test

We’ve been very critical — and rightfully so — of Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, whose refusal to attempt to earn more than $30 million he has been paid by the team was punctuated by a decision not to show up for a mandatory minicamp.

But it’s important to remember that Haynesworth isn’t exactly beating up on a singing-impaired choir boy.  Coach Mike Shanahan has, in our estimation, taken a few liberties with reality when it comes to the Haynesworth situation, and we’re now beginning to believe that Shanahan intentionally gave Haynesworth a conditioning test that Shanahan knew he would fail.

Per a league source (and forgive me if someone else has reported this, but power is out at our undisclosed beach location and I’m trying to conserve the battery in my laptop and my Sprint mobile hot spot, which is performing incredibly well during an intense barrage of lightning), Haynesworth completed the assigned pair of 300-yard shuttle runs, but Shanahan then decided that he had too much rest between the two attempts, due to a bathroom break.

The source says that Shanahan told Haynesworth that he “needed to get in shape.”  Haynesworth then said that he couldn’t have completed three 300-yard shuttle runs even in his Pro Bowl/All-Pro years.

Said Shanahan in response, “I guess you have never been in shape then.”  (It’s unknown whether Shanahan then said, “Boom.  Roasted.”)

It’s currently our understanding that Haynesworth was the only lineman required to pass the conditioning test.  Though some may contend that those who participated in the offseason program earned an exemption, it’s our understanding that the test is imposed to ensure that the player is ready to withstand the rigors of training camp.  Just because the rest of the players participated in the offseason program, which concluded more than a month ago, doesn’t mean they’re still in shape.  So all of them should have to pass it, or none of them should be expected to try.

  1. Haynesworth is on a might large shit-list. DL in a 3-4 are not as valuable. Trade-bait?

  2. here in New England all the Patriot players have to pass a conditioning run before they are allowed to practice fully. Why are you acting like this is something out of the norm?

  3. Is this just Shanahan (whom I happen to hate, but that’s moot here) exerting his will?
Does Haynesworth have any incentives in his contract this year regardling playing time, probowl selection, et al that he needs to make, or does his presence guarentee his salary?
If that’s the case, then I don’t see how strong-arming him will work.

  4. Don’t worry about the lightning storm, Mike, it’s just Shanahan playing God over in D.C. It’ll pass.

  5. Give Shanny a polygraph!
Q: “Did you give that fat pig a harder test to prove a point?”
A: “Yes. I’m the COACH OF THE F-ING FOOTBALL TEAM.”
It’s called running laps, fellas. Screw up with the big man, ya run laps.

  6. This is not something new.., its all part of standard operating procedures. This conditioning test is standard procedure for ALL Redskin Players, who received single payments of $20 million dollars in bonus money AND skip OTA’s.
Look it up.., its consistant with every other player in this situation in team history and I’m sure will be for every future player in team…, futururey

  7. ” all of them should have to pass it, or none of them should be expected to try.”
Yeah, except for the fact that Haynesworth is making more than the rest of the line put together.
Dude is getting paid mad money; he should at least show up to camp on time, in the best condition of the bunch, and bust his a$$ to earn that fat paycheck.

  8. Why doesn’t Shanny just strap everyone to a polygraph and ask if they’re in shape?

  9. So much for the proverbial olive branch being extended. This doesnt look like it will end well. Wondering if team is trying to document repeated missteps in order to suspend and recoupe money ala T.O.

  10. Go Mike!!
I can just see him yelling “Theres no Sh*tting in Football”
Come on Florio, Shanny HAD to do this. All the other players are watching to see if the $100 million dollar man gets any special treatment. If other players on the team see that Mike wont put up with anything from Albert, they in turn know that their coach means business.
BTW, nice product placement you corporate wh*re.

  11. How before the NFLPA weighs in on this one? They ought to do something for the member of their union…

  12. If he was told the conditions of the test before he began, and it included a set period of rest and he exceeded that rest period, he failed.
If he’s making that kind of money, suck it up and do what you need to do. Oh, wait, this is Haynesworth we’re talking about. Go ahead and bitch and cry that it is all unfair and that the teacher doesn’t like you. Seems to be his MO.

  14. Way to go Shanahan, I hate the Redskins but that is golden right there. He is the boss and it is good to see Haynesworth is being sent a message.

  15. There are Twentysome million reason’s why he should have to take the test. If he’s going to be a little B**ch, then he’s gonna be treated like one. Good job Shanny!!!

  16. Haynesworthless needs to earn his money, that his has robbed from Daniel Snyder for the past 2 years. ( not a big d.s. fan). Suck it up big boy.

  19. As much as I think AH is a POS, I have to agree with you on this one Mike-It’s got be test all or none.

  20. Florio sez:
“Just because the rest of the players participated in the offseason program, which concluded more than a month ago, doesn’t mean they’re still in shape. So all of them should have to pass it, or none of them should be expected to try.”
    ———-
Bullshit, Mike. Then, maybe they should all be paid the same. And not have to show up in shape. Or on time. And, perhaps there shouldn’t be winners and losers in football games or any other contests…just like all those pansy-ass PC bitches would like to have happen, clear down to the pee-wee level…so that no one gets hurt feelings.
The man got paid to do a job. His job is to do what he is told to do. He’s supposed to be an athlete. He’s supposed to be a man. Man up, you overpaid, fat-assed punk, and get to work.
Florio, you really didn’t have to ever tell anyone you were a lawyer. It’s pretty evident…

  21. Hahahahaha……that should probably earn him another bonus from the Redskins.
When are the going to wake up and realize they have wasted millions on an out of shape, overweight, and most likely washed up “never was”?

  22. So what is your point? Are you that experienced and knowledgeable to tell us how coaches should manage their players? Heresay, your estimations and bold statements are making this a time wasted column.

  23. Very wordy for a critically low battery. How many “our understanding” statements exist in this article. 1st one with right answer wins a free shot at Florio! Go!

  24. No one else is making the cash that Albert is stealing either. He should be held to a higher standard; prove that he is worth at least some of that money he is stealing. Shanahan is 100% right in this case. The only thing he has done wrong is he turned down the Bills.

  25. That fat pig is a pile of stinkin’ garbage from head to toe.
Take back the pro-rated portion of his signing bonus. Please!

  26. These were the actual comments just revealed via twitter:
Shanny, “Haynesworth, you fat bastard. Better get it together cause I’m gonna ride you like a farmer does a pig.”
    Albert, “F-you ratface.”

  29. It’s commonplace that player’s who participate in a large percentage of the off-season program are exempt from the camp conditioning test. There’s two ways to look at this however:
    1. The 300 yard shuttle run is such an archaic test it’s pathetic NFL strength coaches are still employing it. At no point does any player (albeit a defense lineman) run 300 yards at one time. Period. You’re not even tapping into the correct energy system.
    2. Players almost always know that if they miss “x” amount of the off-season program, their conditioning test will be “x”. Now, Haynesworth surely should of known they were going to exploit him one way or another. His trainer and him should of practiced the hell out of this test, however meaningless it is.

  30. The test for Albert should be if “he can walk & talk at the same time’. ……… If he can’t he should have to return all previous monies earned …… A great way to put an end to this fiasco.

  31. Florio, Florio, Florio. Can you even run a 30 yd shuttle run? I must say that reporting on Haynesworth to end with a cheesy punchline of how all others must participate is Florianism at its finest.

  32. I think it’s fairly obvious what’s going on here after reading these camp reports and the reports of Haslett’s improved relationship with Albert.
Shannahan equals bad cop, Haslett equals good cop. It’s pretty smart actually being that Albert seems to respond to mind games. Shannahan is fine letting hate motivate Albert, if he hates him, oh well. As long as the big guy is willing to play for Haslett. And as long as Albert is distracted by hating Shanny, Haslett can get in his ear and play nice. The result I think they’re going for will be that he’ll cut off his nose to spite his face, i.e. play hard as hell for Haslett to spite Shannahan.

  33. OT – But if you’re on Cape Hatteras take the ferry over to Ocracoke for some excellent clamming in chest deep water.
Just feel for them with your feet and dive down and pick them up. You can get a cooler full in about an hour or so. Steam them and dip them in some drawn butter. Buy some fresh crab sold on the various docks if you are so inclined.

  34. Why does Mike Florio think he’s the one to decide what is proper conditioning tests and / or communications between the Redskins coaches and the players?
Haynesworth sat out all of the offseason activities but one day. Do you honestly think it’s not appropriate to give him a conditioning test when he returns? And who are YOU to say it was too hard. Shanahan runs the team; he makes the policy.
Secondly, if those words are as harsh as coaches say to players, then I’ll eat my hat. What a joke. Guys get dressed down worse than that in High School football!
I remember the last time a new coach got roundly criticized for being too much of a hardass to his players. There was lots of tension and talk of running the coach off. That was Tom Coughlin, before he won the Super Bowl with the giants. Not saying the skins are going to the bowl, but the point is, sometimes discipline is as important as cowtowing to the big name players. Again…see Couglin.

  35. Awesome- Gunnery Sgt. Shanahan can’t do anything about his contract and isn’t going to trade or cut him because that what Albert wants. What can he do? Make his ass suffer, and hope he pulls a Sprewell and gets barred from the league, sans pay.

  37. We all understand the coach can do what he wants but ShannaRat acts like its HIS money and he just got there.
I can’t wait for that worthless renob to have cut Larry Johnson after he starts beating up women like he did in KC.
    ShannaRat DESERVES Haynesworth and Johnson.

  38. Florio,
There’s no excuse for Lard-Ass & I’m glad Shanahan put him thru the ringer. He deserves what’s coming to him. Don’t try to spin this any other way because the rest of us are not buying it for 1 minute.

  39. I love how everyone blames Haynesworth like he’s stolen Dan Snyder’s money. Does Anyone remember that Dan Snyder threw 100 million at him before ANY OTHER TEAM MADE AN OFFER? Dan Snyder throws his money down the tubes EVERY year and it’s only matter of time before they are saying the same thing about the ridiculous money he’s paying the shanahans and allen! On deck, Jim Haslett the DC who is willing to kiss the danny’s ass unlike Greg Williams.

  40. Haynesworth’s third roll of fat just above the belly button was overheard saying “Shanny, I’ll curb stomp you like Andre Gurode!”…

  41. This story is great, Shanahan did an interview on espn also saying that they had given him the opportunity to go and sign any where and they would just let him go, he wouldn’t be compensated though. That’s when he decided that he wanted to show up for CAMP. Good (expilitive) on The Coach for laying down the law and letting the guys in the locker room Know right away that no one in the group is better than anyone.

  42. Is this going to affect the PFT Power Rankings, about which we’re all no doubt biting our nails in nervous anticipation? I mean, could the Haynesworth Affair result in Washington being ranked 18th rather than 17th?

  43. Haynesworth holds all the cards. He is at camp, do enough to not violate your contract but nothing more. Force them to trade you and if they put you in at NT let them see that will never work.
They are playing with you, all this talk about him taking the money is crazy. They had to give him the money as it was in the contract. Get the hell out of town big man, you are to good to be a OX at NT.
They are punking you, punk them right back but use your head, you hold all the cards.

  44. As a Redskins fan I am desperately hoping that Shanahan will help to turn the franchise around but I am really concerned about some of the things he’s done and we haven’t even played a single game yet.
The change to the 3-4, seemingly on the whim of, “sure, let’s give it a go, it looks kinda cool,” appears a bit unwise but I am willing to wait an see. The thing that worries me is the whole power crazed, middle management shtick. Most of the players are glad to have some discipline back after Zorn, who acted like a novice supply teacher and allowed the pupils to run riot. The players like the fact that Shanahan wants to take control, but the fact that he wants to take control of absolutely everything is going to cause problems sooner rather than later.
I hope I am wrong, but I think Shanahan’s my way or the highway attitude is going to result in a lot of players choosing the highway.

  46. Shanahan standing over Haynesworth”I NEVER SAW A MAN EAT 47 HARD BOILED EGGS”

  47. Albert, your stamina sucks and you crush your stripper girlfriend when you have sex. Boom. Roasted.

  48. Shannahan is greasing the skids to get rid of ol blubberbelly. But how will he do it? Could he trade him to anyone? Raiders? Who would want a guy who has been given so much money by this franchise, doesn’t show up for mandatory activities and comes in to training camp out of shape. This dork needs a lesson and Mikey can certainly teach it to him. Mikey is looking for his breaking point and when he finally hits that “hot” button and Albert goes off, then he will suspend him for the year without pay without losing his rights so he can do it all over again next year.
I know I wouldn’t want this guy on my team for a 7th rd pick. I would take 10 TO’s over this chump because at least TO plays the game.

  49. Ahhhhhh, it’s SO GOOD to have football season back with us. This is great. Seems about 20:1 for Shanny on this, which is way better than he did at Denver. He’s off to a good start with the fans.

  50. Not all players have to pass a agility test. It is definately much more difficult to pass the test when you are on coaches shit list. Take Cody for example hes just a rookie. He wouldnt have passed the test Shanahan gave him either. I honestly dont believe any nose tackles in a 3-4 would be able too. Now given he wants to play end in a 3-4 so he was given no slack what so ever. The way he behaved and the way he has acted to the COACH and the TEAM is why he failed. This is just the coaches way of talking smack and it is deserved. I would be very suprised if Haynesworth doesnt try to act out anymore but he might think twice before pulling this stunt again after this whole thing. Or he is going to be released or traded. Either way hes gonna atleast puke his ass off trying to prove he is worth that kind of money hes recieved.

  51. Shanahan’s a moron who’s claim to fame will always be that he was hitched up with John Elway. I actually like McNabb, but Shanahan is too short sighted to get things done there. Why would you reform the defense into a 3-4 look when you have not only one of the most dominant, disruptive DTs in football, but a second year DE/LB in brian orakpo who is capable of dominating himself.
However, you can see on display with this childishness, along with his poor personnel evaluation, why he’s largely been a mediocre coach since 1999 with one fluky playoff win since Elway. Haynesworth isn’t right either in this fiasco, so don’t think I’m siding with him, but Shanahan is being the jerk he’s always been, as confirmed by John Elway’s recent admission that he disliked him as well.

  52. Fat Al was told prior to the shuttle runs that he would have a 5 minute rest period between 300 yard shuttle runs. What does Fat Al do, he says he has to take a piss and uses that as an excuse to extend his 5 minute break (it would take longer than 5 minutes to walk in from the practice field to the pisser and back at Redskins Park). Shanny sees him trying to take advantage of the situation, and after Fat Al finishes the 2nd 300 yard shuttle run, Fat Al is informed he failed based on him taking longer than the 5 minutes alloted for his rest period. Whats the problem?

  53. The Texans will give you a 2011 3rd rounder for him Washington….lets make it happen.

  54. Good grief people. Some of you still just don’t get it. This had NOTHING to do with conditioning and EVERYTHING to do with establishing the pecking (and pecker) order at Redskin Park. I am now a complete Mike Shanahan fan. He took a situation that really seemed to have no resolution and fixed it. Think about it:
The players now respect Shanny for showing that no one is bigger than the team
Haynesworth now understands that he will either play by Shanny’s rules or they already have just cause to can him.
Shanny saves face by reminding everyone who is running the show.
    Beautiful.

  55. shanahan had to do something to keep the respect of his locker room. having been in locker rooms all his life, haynesworth probably gets it.
if its a one day spanking, my guess is its all forgotten.
if, on the other hand shanahan overplays his hand, haynesworth might be playing in a 4-3 somewhere else by kickoff time.

  56. “… a singing impaired choir boy”?
Mike you must have written this when you were rushed or exhausted. This is labored. You have way better stuff in you! 🙂

Absolutely not going to happen. Didn’t you notice all of the players lining up to trash Haynesworth this offseason. Haynesworth has become the poster boy for the dangers of signing free agents to mega-contracts with huge guaranteed money, potentially endangering the future earning power of free agents down the line. The players are not only going to let him take his lumps on this one, they’ll probably be chuckling about it as much as many of the fans are.

  58. are we supposed to feel sorry in any way for this ass clown?I could possibly care less what he was allegedly promised by the guys who were in charge last year, no reasonable person will ever believe he signed because they said he would be in a 4-3 system.no he had 100 million reasons why he signed with skins not the guys who coached them last year.as an employee who took the money he should either give the money back or shut up and do what they tell him. I hated my boss at my last job but had to do what he said anyway just like every other working man who busts his ass for his family and does not get paid the amount haynesworth does. I am no skins fan but go shanahan!set this overpaid whiney bitch straight!

  59. Two 300 yard shuttle runs, and he needed to take a bathroom break in between them? That’s as phony an excuse as I’ve ever heard. He was stalling for time to get his wind, plain and simple. Kudos to Shanahan for calling him on it.
What a turd! Another nice signing for Danny Boy.

  60. I too have to pass a conditioning test (for carpel tunnel) before the season begins. When I can flip channels 200 times (inbetween 30 beers) in three hours without needing a timeout to go potty, I am then ready for another season of Direct TV NFL Package.

  61. @azlionsfan-
you did not based on that big fat logo in the top right of this page that this site it sponsored by Sprint? Please tell me you did and you were joking. Did you come down on the last drop of rain?

  62. I’ll quote what Marshall Faulk said on The NFL Network…………
“Just wait until Albert mysteriously pulls a hamstring that can’t be detected by an MRI”.
Shanahan will wake up and realize he can’t pull the same crap that he did in Denver with Dan Reeves and John Elway. Remember how he stole Dan Reeves job by creating a rift between Reeves and Elway so that Elway would complain to management that Reeves wasn’t doing his job, and here comes Shanahan to take Reeves job.
Shanahan will soon realize you don’t want to mess with the 100 million dollar man, because he can fake an injury and still get paid.

  63. this is starting to go down the road of the shanahan-deltha o’neal feud. Deltha got on his bad side and he poked and prodded him, finally switched him to a wr before trading him. and what did deltha do the next year tie for the league in interceptions with 10 and make the pro bowl. he had some mishaps but that is neither here nor there. but the point is shanahan is gonna kill this team with his ego, and everybody knows that he has not done shit with out one of the greatest QB’s of all time Elway!!!

  66. (Comment full of mixed metaphors, but I think the point comes through – sorry about that.)
Speaking not as someone with the knowledge, skill, memory, resources, thick hide, or VW bus to maintain a site jam-packed daily with Fascinating Football Facts, Fancies, Fetishes and Foibles, but as a fan of the site and the game, this is a great story. It has so much meat, and so many angles, I’m going to have to read it twice.
Based on a really superficial reading, my first response was to silently snicker at the difficulties Obnoxious Albert is having, and the immediate second response, that Shanahan better be careful. With a bullheaded coach and a bullheaded player, both with big reputations and big talent, neither afraid of pushback (probably not of courts or lawsuits, either), and both out to prove something, this feels now like a landmine-type of situation that could explode at any time, with the debris falling on the team. I hope these talented men will find a way to rein in their vanity and settle their issues quickly and intelligently.

  67. Mike, I can only assume your playing devils advocate here. You cant be so arrogant to voice an opinion that alberts superior cant make him do some conditioning test. I mean seriously, Shanahan hasnt seen this guy, as his coach anyway. He was paid 30 million so far, for pretty much no return. And has to run a total of 900 yards. Seriously its not hard to run 300 yards 3 times. Even a 300 plus lb NFL lineman should be able to do this. You obviously must not of ever attempted exercising. He knows the conditioning of the other men because he has seen them in practice. If he wants to prove a point and say ‘listen your just like every one else on the team, since you werent here, i need to see you do this’, than so be it. A head coach has to have complete control of the players to avoid bad T.O. type situations. Very obviously nothing is getting through to him. He signed a contract for the Redskins, regardless of what it is. Therefore, on the field, he is owned by the Redskins.

  77. Yeah right. Go get the top 5 D-tackles in the league and see if they can pass the test, Shanahan is being a dick just as much as Haynesworth. What do you want?? Being in shape doesnt make a great player…just look at Andre Carter.

  78. Hmm. Let’s rewind a little bit here. He –
    1. Took the money even though he had no real intention of playing for Shanahan.
    2. He then decided he didn’t like his bos and didn’t show up for work.
    3. He finally showed up but was not in shape
Tell me again how Shanahan is an evil dictator?
Listen, I’m a Giants fan and I can tell you that the only way to change a teams fortunes is to start by changing the culture. When you got a mediocre performer like Haynesworth, you gotta put him in his place. People can say what they want about Shanahan, be he’s got 2 more superbowl rings than Fat Albert. Personally, I love the discord that Fat Albert brings and I hope it will catch on and infect the team like TO did in Dallas and Philly. Go Giants!

  79. It goes both ways…
Redskins…in SUCH a desperate attempt to get a player that you’ll throw $100M at him without considering his track record…STUPID!!!! You got exactly what you deserved!!!
Albert…JUST because you were able to weasel your way into that fat contract doesn’t entitle you to be such an @$$! Nobody owes you ANYTHING – your sense of entitlement in this league is ridiculous and to that point, you’ve made your lunch and now Shanahan fed it to you…you got exactly what you deserved!!!
    Two sorry cases…perfect combination!

  80. Look Shanahan is going to impose his will on Albert Haynesworthless for not coming in after taking a 20+ million check from the redskins organization. I must say I am shocked to hear you Mike Florio defending Albert. If you are to perform two 300 yard shuttles then thats what you should do. Shanahan didn’t say do one 300 yard shuttle and go take a piss and rest up and come back when your ready and run the other 300 yard shuttle. As you (Mike Florio) currently understand it Albert was the only linemen required to take the test. Well as I currently understand it Albert was the only linemen given 20 million bucks and did not want to show up at work because he didn’t like the area he would be working in. I would run him untill he wanted to quit and give me my money back.
And to the guy who says Albert could come down with a mysterious hamstring injury….sure he could do that as long as he realizes that will be the last paycheck he gets from any team in the NFL. Stop crying and take ya ass to work, their paying you what you asked for now get ya ass in gear and be a man. A chump or a wuss comes up with this mentality of faking an injury because someone makes him cry. Man up, your getting paid to play so suck it up and play. Hell for what he’s getting paid is there anyone in here who would have a problem running 2 or 3 300 yard shuttles. Hell you might not finish them but you give every effort to TRY… not whine like a B!#@ and say I’m not gonna play anymore cause you hurt my feelings. Shanahan is the right guy to deal with Albert. The owner David Synder is the one losing money not Shanahan. Synder should let the professionals pick the players and he just write the checks.

  81. “So all of them should have to pass it, or none of them should be expected to try.”
Yes, Florio, it must be equal for everyone because we live in a socialist, egalitarian society and there must be no difference between anyone and anyone else.

  82. Hayesworth showed restraint in not going for Mike Shana-vulcans throat…only because in Spocks back pocket, was the vulcan death grip….

  83. I see The Rat still thinks of himself as the master manipulator. Are Redskin fans happy to have this guy coaching their club? Between him and the owner, I don’t know how they’re going to avoid burning the place to the ground.

  85. lets get to the point…all Albert has to do is say he hure his lower back, and the skins will have to pay him another 10 million when he says his back is ok. Or when Shanahan says run, albert can walk, when he says jump, he can sit, in other words the skins better realize if they don’t want his fat ass there, then send him to us we would love to have him in our 4-3

  86. Conditioning test.
    Was that a 0-10-0-20-0-30-0-40-0-50-0 test?
Wow, we do 2 of them at the end of EVERY SINGLE practice, and if you can’t complete them, you are required to do 2 additional ones…
A FREAKIN NFL PLAYER CANT DO THEM?

  87. Albert should claim a strained back or neck that happened on the third 300 & screw the Redskins out of this years salary too. No doubt fat Al blew it last yr & didn’t live up to expectations but coming in after loosing 20 lbs & ready to play hard. What is Shanahan trying to prove? This makes no sense. I see why the Raiders & Broncos fired this guy. Way to screw this season up. Just don’t see this as making any sense. But that has been the Skins since Snyder bought them. Also it was pissing rain today. Did he do these Sprints in the middle of the monsoon?

  88. Well Mike you got it wrong, again as usual.
Shanahan said nothing happen and Haynesworth was working hard. So stop going to the THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER for you info. I no your desparate for attention. One of these days you’ll graduate from a being cub reporter:/

  89. Finally some ballz here in DC. And it is now being reported he did NOT say boom ..roasted. Shanny said.. burnt your beans

  90. @Kushin
Why does the 21 million they paid him matter? The redskins wanted to rework his deal so if they wanted to they could cut him after this year and not take a big cap hit. They did the same thing with Halls contract. You want to run him till he pukes…this isnt pee-wee football. It’s retarded to just piss him off. They have to pay him this year. He passed the physical, put his ass on the field.

  91. _iPod……..Pretty sure they do the test in yards and not feet in the NFL.

  92. haslett: i will only make u run 3 200 yard shuttles albert.
    albert: thanx coach.
    ///////////////////////
this is allbutt’s fault. he said he wanted to play DE. that requires more movement. i bet the other DE can do 3 300s. hell maake can probly do it too.
i agree with the rat. ‘i am the coach. u want to talk trash? be here like everyone else and do yer job then after u show yer bonafides for a long time, we can talk. no other guarantees.’

  93. I believe in what Coach has in mind, Fat Albert is a “special consideration”. I as an NCO in the army, Retired, I gave my special soldiers special considerations (pure HEll) when needed. Its a war in the NFL other guys are counting on you, Fat al better get it done and not snivel about having to be in shape to earn 30 mill. I dont feel sorry at all, GO COACH

  94. I suspect that Haynesworth lost between 20-40 pounds (depending on who you believe) this off-season as a total F-you to the Redskins for implementing a 3-4 defense that severely wastes the elite talent that Haynesworth has as a 4-3 DT (and that Daniel Snyder paid so much to acquire).
By the time the season starts, Haynesworth might end up as perhaps the highest-paid 3-4 DE in NFL history.

    ——————– ——————– —-
You mean how he did with Jay “Great Hope” Cutler?
    —————————————————
You understand GWH, Just like Reid does with your idol in Philly.

  96. Heard them talking about Haynesworth on NFLN last night and the one commenter said that when Haynesworth was asked at the Combine what his long term goal was he answered “to be a billionaire” so no one should be surprised at what Haynesworth is doing now.
Whatever the situation is, flapping gums to the media about it will never make it better…for either side.

  97. This really shouldn’t be news, but it’s in DC just like everything TO farts in Cincy it’s news.
Big difference is that TO isn’t playing for an over bloated paycheck in Cincy, but is playing for a championship while Haynesworth is merely milking the money cow and Shannahan is basically saying, “I don’t care how much money you make. You either perform up to expectations or you’re cut…” Now if the author has said the bottom line is Albert has to live up to the billing there would be no question, but you’ve stuck in some non-issue spin in there to build some diabolical undercurrent that no fan of either should bother commenting on.
Marvin in Cincy is the boss and every player there knows it. Either live up to your pay check or hop on the first bus out of town.. It’s THAT simple.

  98. Ok let me see..where do I start. You pay all this $$ to a guy who had basically one stand-out season, just to make a BIG splash in the free-agent signing news. Were the ‘Skins even close to making a run? Should they have used money in other places? (another pass rusher to help Orakpo, a safety who can actually put the secondary in position, a proven return man). I’m glad they are in our division. 2 wins easy. Go Big Blue.
