Jared Odrick agrees to terms with the Dolphins

Slowly, but surely, the draft picks taken at the bottom part of the first round are beginning to sign.

Defensive lineman Jared Odrick agreed to terms with the Dolphins Thursday, a league source tells PFT.  The No. 28 overall pick had a template to work from after Patriots cornerback Devin McCourty signed, but it’s a mild surprise Odrick agreed before Miami’s second round pick, linebacker Koa Misi.

Odrick was one of our favorite draft prospects, a heady defensive lineman with consistent effort that can line up at multiple positions.

Four first-round draft picks have now signed.

UPDATE:  Odrick’s five-year deal has $7.133 million in guaranteed money and a maximum value of $13.071 million.

  1. Let’s break this one down:
“Odrick was one of our favorite draft prospects, a heady defensive lineman with consistent effort that can line up at multiple positions.”
    heady = smarty
    consistent effort = unathletic
That’s now the second time you’ve referred to him as ‘heady’.
And this will be the second time readers spam responses that heady means white.

  2. Im telling you, the phins are THE sleeper pick this year. They are building this team right by adding lineman and depth in the draft and adding proven skill players thru FA. Biggest question mark with the phins is their young secondary. The Dolphins are well coached, rarely beat themselves and play solid football in all 3 phases. Everyone is talking about the Pats and Jets but I see the phins stealing this one and since they are built for the long haul, they should run this division for the next several years. Pats are getting old and the Jets are paper tigers that will fall apart after this free agency experiment fails ( see 2000 Washington Redskins).

  3. CJ Spiller should be signing real soon. McClain signed just 1 pick above him so that should at least work out the money end of the deal.

  4. With Odrick and McCourty signed, now the Jets can sign “Jersey Dreads” Wilson– ha, i like that nickname

  5. GO PHINS!!! I like what they are doing. Time to sweep the whole AFC East!!!

  6. OOF… When I saw Dolphins I thought this was going to be about a murder, another Wife beating, drugs or the guy just quitting.
Nice Job Miami, you’re on the upswing and should at least beat Buffalo.

  7. Pats are getting old and the Jets are paper tigers that will fall apart after this free agency experiment fails ( see 2000 Washington Redskins).

The difference of course being that the Jets didn’t give out ANY huge Redskin like contracts…
And the little fact that most of their FA”s are what Parcells calls Hold the fort guys – Like Jason Taylor Or LT who will both probably fill in for a year… Those aren’t core make or break players… Cromartie is also Hold the fort CHEAP 1 year guy until the rook gets up to speed and I don’t think it was ever expected for the Jets to keep Holmes AND Edwards….
The Jets have a good core – the additions were icing on the cake and part of getting rid of guys not on the same page with Rex’s plans in YEAR 2.

I don’t know about all of that, but you make valid points, I would be a little more worried about your young QB, and your LB core is weak in the middle, some ?’s there.

  9. I’m still waiting for one PSU to not stink in the NFL because I’m tired of being embarrassed.

  10. Good job- 1 to go. I guess Drew is trying to get his players in on time. and stay in good graces with Parcells.
BTW- jests are garbage per usual. WAY too many players unhappy about being lied to and on their last contract year. No $$ for their “core”.. no interests in their PSL’s…LMAO! Dolphins brooms are at the ready for another sweep. Implosion is on for mid-season at the latest. Same old jets- a laughingstock for us all!

  11. Gotta love the jests fans. They always talk about how the old guys they are signing are not going to start and are just fill-in guys. Hate to tell all you goobers, but one injury and that “fill-in” guy becomes a starter. Do you really think if Greene goes down LT will fill in nicely? Even if Sancheezy goes down, do you think Brunnell will hold his own (actually, this may be an upgrade)? The Fins have good depth at almost every position. That is what wins in the end. We didn’t have that last year like they do this year and it killed them in the end and because the defense was old and couldn’t hold up.
And jest-raper — do you expect to read about a player like Santonio (puff puff pass) or Braylon (beat up on Erckle) Edwards getting arrested every time you see a jest article?

  12. Pats are getting old? According to who?
Maybe Moss is getting old but who else?
Youngest defense in the NFL, good RB by committee with two young guys, Brady’s got 5 more years and 4 WRs in their 3rd year or less.
Patriots are literally one of the youngest teams in the NFL and if they have 1 more solid draft next year and use the Raiders 1st pick to land a guy like Adrian Clayborn or Allen Bailey… or even my boy Romeus from Coral Springs… they will be right back on top.

The Jets “good core” as you put it was for all intensive purposes an 8-8 club last year. They should be better this year, but I wouldn’t start celebrating just yet

That’s fine Jets fans… think all you want about YEAR 2 and forget YEARS 3,4,5,6,7 and 8. With expectations sky high, a ton of one year deals and so many combustible elements in one locker room, Rex Ryan might not have a job those years anyways…

Uh…sorry pal. The Patriots are literally the oldest team in the NFL. They had their run – now it’s over.
According to who? Here you go:

NY Times – NFL Teams, Oldest to Youngest

  16. @”JetReaper “….yes and the overarted Jets are the team that others wish they could be like. Lets see….a WR who wasnt wanted by his previous team and oh yeah is suspended for pot and then theres that awesome CB who has more kids with different womem and then INT’s and whom the team had to front him money b/c he is a loser……..yeah they have perfect guys on that team get a clue moron.

  17. Contrary to popular belief, the Dolphins inside linebacker core has tons of potential. (Assuming Channing Crowder doesn’t get the start) Take a look at A.J. Edds. He has awesome coverage skills for those big tight ends. Also Tim Dobbins, who is in a good position to start, is tough as nails…

  18. Did he get arrested this offseason? That’s the pre-req to sign with the Dolphins.
/bengals joke from last 4 years

Haha, have to admit I laughed.
To the Pats fan that said they have two young stud TE’s – touche! I’m jealous of the Pat TE corps, seriously. I really like that Hernandez kid, he will just destroy defenses for you. The only problem is traditionally the Pats haven’t used TE-friendly sets or passing games. At least not since the days of Watson, anyway. Hopefully that will change now.

  20. “Did he get arrested this offseason? That’s the pre-req to sign with the Dolphins.”
Good thing he wasn’t asked to get off an airplane or he would have had to go to the jests.
