A tip of the cap to E.J. Henderson

It didn’t take long after E.J. Henderson’s gruesome injury last season for speculation to begin that the Vikings linebacker’s career could be threatened.

Less than eight months later, he’s taking snaps again at Vikings training camp, surprisingly having avoided the active/PUP list.  Henderson has yet to participate in full contact work, but he’s making steady progress.

“I know it was a bad injury and I know some of those injuries can be
career-ending,” defensive end Jared Allen told the Associated Press. “So to see him back
running, to see him back with a helmet in his hand, to me is awesome.
It’s inspiring.”

Brad Childress says Henderson has been “religious” about his rehab “almost to the point where you have to hold him back.”

Henderson quietly has deflected any attention from his recovery. “I just look at it as a little journey I took. Seven months and I’m back at it,” Henderson said.

That little journey could prove to be a rallying point for the rest of the Vikings defense.

  1. best story of all the training camps. How about Eric Wood? Is he back from his injury? I can’t even watch that video.

  2. @allied biscuit
Eric Wood is back and in training camp with no restrictions..back to full speed..that guy is a freak!

  3. man i love that guy…it is soooo obvious how much E.J loves football and it shows when he is healthy. two seasons in a row he has been spectacular before horrible injuries…him making it though the entire season will make vikes defense even better.

  4. Here’s hoping EJ can make it back onto the field. That injury was horrible.
I just can’t see how he can be back to top NFL form after something like that…..and so quickly.

  5. Great news, great story…makes you forget about the BS stories for a while…

  6. Guy has his leg snapped in two and makes it to camp.
Lord Favre does not after ankle surgery.

Leave it to Brad Childress to say some ignorant retarded shit.

Leave it to OJ SIMPSON to refer to someone as “ignorant” and “retarded.”

LAY OFF THE CHRONIC!! Best LB in football? Nice story but c’mon!! You’ll need him against the best offense in the division, the Pack!! J-Mike and co. will shred that old and tired defense to pieces!! Last year, what about it? We’re healthy this year, no 2nd string tackles and safeties to take advantage this year. Gonna’ be a long year for you Queen fan!!

  9. I was at the game where Eric Wood snapped his leg last year. Man, was that gruesome!

  10. Coming from someone who broke his Femur! What EJ Henderson has already accomplished is absolutely amazing. Granted I did have to have 2 surguries (one to put the rod in) and (one to take it out). I was told if I kept the rod in I wouldn’t be able to play contact sports or join the military and wanted to keep my options open. Now I know that was BS.

  11. He is the heart of our defense. He is the reason that our defense has held onto the physical mentality that Tomlin brought here.

  12. This wasn’t any bone….it was his freaking femur leg bone. Its a freaking miracle. Well done, EJ.

  13. BEST LB IN FOOTBALL HANDS DOWN
By far LaMar Woodley of the Steelers is the best and most underpaid & underrated LB in the league! 2 seasons racking up 25 sacks and a ferocious run stopper!

    EJ wins

  15. Best LB in football? no way.
Willis, Beason and Ray ray are still better than him. And EJ is coming off that injury. smoke it up percy

  16. Golf clap. IF only more players had this guy’s attitude the NFL could actually be even better. This guy “gets it”. So many just do not. And it’s sad.

  17. Ruvell sends his regards. Solid guy and a damn good linebacker. I watched that injury and was a horrendous bone-break. He’s a true warrior.

  18. Great, they get both Hendersons back, one from substance abuse and the other from a broken leg. Maybe EJ borrowed a little something from his brother’s medicine cabinet and that accounts for the quick recovery, who knows?

  19. EJ is a great story. Coming back from such a horrible injury is amazing. He was on his way to becoming a pro bowl type player before this injury. He’s a heart and soul type of player on that defense and I hope he can start game 1 in New Orleans.

  20. Percy 420,
You need to put the pipe down, son. He’s good, but far from the best. You need to open your eyes to the rest of the NFL outside your state.

Not a bad idea, as long as it gets him in week one.

  22. HeyPercy420,
I am extremely high right now, AND a Viking’s rube, and think that the “best LB in football” comment was delusional.
    Isn’t it ironic?…Don’t you think?
    totally sweet Allanis Morisette tie-in…
    self high five!!!

  23. He’s is most likely going to be one of the next LB’s in the league for the next decade, barring any lingering effects from the injury. I am surprised that he is back on the field so soon after seeing that injury. Keep up the hard work EJ

  24. MY COMMENT ABOUT E.J. IS BEST LB IN FOOTBALL-WHAT I MEANT BY THAT IS HE DOES NOT SHOOT PEOPLE-KILL PEOPLE WITH THERE CARS-HE IS THERE-NEVER WINES ABOUT CONTRACTS OR WHAT HE IS GETTING PAID-RECOVERED FROM A BAD BREAK IN HIS LEG FASTER THAN ANYONE HAD EXPECTED-U DONT HERE ANYTHING OUT OF FOOTBALL ABOUT HIM BUT THE CHARITY WORK HE DOES FOR MINNESOTA…, WITH THAT SAID THE BEST DAMN LB THE THE GAME TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
