Redskins release Colt Brennan

The trade of backup quarterback John Beck from the Ravens to the Redskins alleviated a quarterback logjam in Baltimore but created one in Washington.

But the Redskins’ logjam didn’t last long.

ESPN 980 in Washington, D.C. is reporting that the Redskins have released backup quarterback Colt Brennan.

After a record-setting college career at Hawaii, the Redskins drafted Brennan in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL draft. Brennan had an impressive preseason that year but never got into a regular-season game.

Now Beck will compete with Rex Grossman for the backup spot behind Donovan McNabb, and the loser of that competition may follow Brennan out of town, as the Redskins appear to be leaning toward keeping only two quarterbacks.
