Terrell Owens calls 100-catch incentive "an unreachable goal"

When Terrell Owens signed a contract with the Bengals that was heavy on incentives, there was some talk that Owens might become a malcontent if the Bengals don’t throw to him enough to meet those incentives.

But Owens says no one should be concerned about that. In fact, Owens says he’s already willing to concede that one of the incentives — a $333,333 bonus for catching 100 passes — is unrealistic for him to accomplish.

I know that’s an unreachable goal,” Owens told Bengals.com. “It is what it is. Malcontent? Check my statistics. I’ve had 100 catches one time in my career. One. So go figure.”

In fact, Owens even suggested that the 100-catch incentive was nothing more than window dressing designed to get the media to refer to his “$2 million in incentives” and make his contract look more lucrative than it really is.

“I guess they wanted to throw that in there to make it look good,” Owens said. “I’ve only had 100 catches one time in my career.”

But Owens says that he’s not motivated by money this year.

“I definitely took a pay cut to grasp the opportunity to win a Super Bowl,” Owens said. “Like I said I know I’m worth more than what I’m being paid. But I’m here playing with my good friend Chad [Ochocinco] and playing with a team that definitely has an opportunity to win the Super Bowl.”

  1. I believe TO has turned the page, then again I believed that when he was in Dallas…
Just wanted to give a positive comment before the TO hateshow begins

  2. He’s wrong. He’s routinely been one of the league leaders for dropped passes. He HAS been in quite a few positions to grab 100 balls.

  3. Agree with T.O., and I’d add his incentive for 1300 receiving yards is equally out of reach, though I doubt he agrees with me on that one.

  4. TO says,
I definitely took a pay cut to try and win a Super Bowl.
    What he really said,
I took the only offer I had to play in the NFL like Jason Taylor.

  5. Oh, and the 14TDs Ain’t happening either. Basically it’s 2 million with a decent chance at a million more.

  6. Well TO finally let the cat out of the bag. Concerning incentives unabtainable. You heard it here first on kitty farts total.

  7. So begins the Great Cincinnati Meltdown of 2010…
And Owens is wielding the torch.
If you hire a piece of shit, I guess you can’t expect things to smell rosy. It’s going to be a very long year for the Bengals… Sorry for you.

  8. He won’t get 100 catches but put him and Chad lined up on the same side of the field and they should be fun to watch. And whoever they line up on the other side, might get 100 catches.

  9. And Bengal fans ar unhappy because…..???
Owens wants to win a ring. Something wrong with that?
Owens won’t meet individual goals to win a ring. Something wrong with that?
Owens won’t meet incentives. Checked out other peoples’s contracts already?
Point is, T.O. could and probably will have a meltdown at some point. But this isn’t it.

  10. Wow, this guy can’t say anything without it being dissected to find a negative. What on earth did he say wrong for him to be called a piece of shit?
I guess whoever Burning River is, must know Owens personally and been wronged by him because I can’t imagine calling someone who plays a sport or who you never met or wouldn’t have the courage to call him that to his face!!
    AMAZING!!! SMDH
Name a receiver who doesn’t think he is worth more!! Look at Andre Johnson, 5 years remaining on his contract and want a new one to be the highest paid receiver!! Imagine that!!

  11. The big argument in Cincy…….Won’t be who is No.1 or who has the most catches……..The real argument will be who wears Douche and Who wears Bag on their uniforms…….And if by ANY chance, any bengals fan thinks Marvin Lewis can take ANY team to a Superbowl, i guess you have been asleep for the last 8 years

  12. The biggest delusion/letdown TO is gonna experience is thinking the Bengals have a chance to win the SB.

  13. Wrong Veal. The argument in Cincy is who will we face in the Super Bowl.
    Time will tell.

  14. I keep reading about drops!!
Last year’s top 15 list of dropped passes was a who is who of the NFL receiving core!!
Gates, Dallas Clark, Andre Johnson(YES AJ), Randy Moss, Heck even Wes Welker was close, Colston, every single one of these guys the TO haters would take over him!!

  15. “I know I’m worth more than what I’m being paid.”
I smell a situation ripe for discontent…especially if they don’t win early and the ball’s not heading in TO’s direction.

  16. Lol at people taking shots over what he said. Yall can do better than that. I actually thought he handled the topic pretty well… He spoke the truth. And he is willing to do it for the team.
Those who complain are the same ones who said he would be me first and want the stats for the extra money. Now he said he basically don’t care, and he’ll do whatever to help the team reach the Superbowl (with all do respect to the “Superbowl Favorites” Ravens) yall complain he “discontent”.

  17. What kind of person admits defeat before it has even started regarding incentives?
A Terrell Owens kind of person….how pathetic!

  18. Bengals chances of making the Super Bowl are better than the Browns, Steelers, and maybe the Ravens.
Also better than the Dolphins, Bills.
    Better than Chiefs,Raiders,Broncos
    Better than Titans,Texans,jaguars
So there is 10-11 teams that aren’t better than Cincy. Why is it so unthinkable to think they don’t have a chance?

  19. @Starvin Marvin – that was the funniest thing I heard all day long. Your shot at making the SB this year is slim and none. And slim left town last week. Unless you break past the putrid history that is the Cincy Bungles, you will be lucky to go 500 this year. But predicting you are going to the SB. ROTFLMAO. What a freaking joke. It’s more likely that the team will implode with the combination of Diva’s, miscreants, and under achievers than making the SB.

T.O. grabbin’ 100 balls this season = 50 pissed off teammates
    ==================
More like 49 pissed off teammates and one gold toothed grin

  21. I realize the bengals have a past but they just swept the division and got better through the draft and free agency. To not consider them a sb contender is ignorant. The negativity is what they are feeding on so please keep it up.

  22. I question how close T.O. and Ochochino really are. When do you ever see them out in public with beautiful women? They are with each other quite a bit though. Very interesting…

  23. He seriously thinks the Bungles can win a Super Bowl? Talk about an unreachable goal…

  24. You people say he’s lost a step and cant play like he used to, then when he agrees, he’s a malcontent piece of shit. Funnyness.

  25. The Bengals swept their division last year, and they added a first round draft pick at their weakest position (tight end), and a future hall of fame receiver to bolster their passing game (that was uncharacteristically weak last year).
Their chances at this point are just as good as anyone’s, and anyones predictions otherwise is pure guesswork.
Remember the favorites to win the superbowl at this point last year? The Steelers, The Giants, or maybe it was the Titans? They all missed the playoffs.

  26. So it begins. Who needs the Superbowl? This should be a great year to watch the circus in Cincinnati.

  27. And if T.O. can survive playing in Buffalo with a QB throwin more balls to the ground than him, he certainly can survive in Cincy with Carson potentially throwing more balls to his teammates than him.
Implosion is possible, but either way, it will be fun to watch.
What would be could if T.O. did win Cincy that SB and then Son of Paul cuts him the two million check anyway. Talk about something that will never happen. But it would be cool if it did.

  28. @fumblenuts……………..What you’re smelling is your upper lip tool! Who’s your team anyway asshole. I love how all you little tadpoles hide behind your names, talk shit, but never seem to mention who your team is. I’m guessing you probably root for some bottom dweller(like the squealers or shitbirds, formerly know as the Browns) that got their asses handed to them by the Bengals last year and your little fart hole is still oinkin from the boinkin! Go back to fumbling your nuts lil fella and leave football to the big boys!

  29. Bengals could go all the way this year, why not?? Who was picking the Saints last August?
TO sounds like he’s got a level head. With him, it’s always subject to change but maybe this is the right team at the right time.
The elephant in the room is Carson Palmer. He faded bad at the end of last season. But if the defense is good, it could still be a Super Bowl year.

  30. “The Bengals swept their division last year, and they added a first round draft pick at their weakest position (tight end), and a future hall of fame receiver to bolster their passing game (that was uncharacteristically weak last year).

    this times 1000

  31. While I won’t go so far as to predict the Super Bowl, I feel really good about the direction this team is headed. For all of the above reasons mentioned as to why they SHOULD do better (1st rd pick at weakness, 2 former #1 wr’s added), people also forget that this was a top 5 defense that lost a sack leader (Odom, 8 sacks) after only six games and finished the season without 5 defensive starters. IF the injury bug stays away, they have a more than decent shot.
And TO has done and said all the right things since he has been here, and still gets lambasted. I am not a TO fan at all, but it seems he is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t.

  32. Idiots are fun to read.
While I won’t go so far as to say a Super Bowl ring is a definite (just as I won’t with any team, any year because of the idiocracy of predicting something proven to be unpredictable) any of you idiots that won’t acknowledge that this team is at least better than it was last year is wasting eveyrone’s time….believe it or not we really don’t come on here to read your weak attempts at humor.
This team swept the division, went to the playoffs (even though they lost they were there), had a top 5 defense and an excellent running game and no real off field distractions. They made solid free agent moves (Bryant withstanding until it plays out) and had a great draft where they tended to all of their needs YET some d-bags are so lacking in football knowledge that they can’t recognize the potential of this team to be much better.
    STOP WASTING OUR TIME

I have a question, and it’s not meant to be offensive at all. It’s just an observation. Why would someone who clearly knows nothing about football, and probably watches American Idol during the playoffs possibly contend that they have a rightful place for commentary on an NFL news website? Hell, at least get on wikipedia and pretend to research something before you post things that don’t make any sense. Here, I did the work for you…
In 2000 the Ravens won Super Bowl XXXV. And it sure as shit wasn’t because of their head coach or their offense.
“If ever a man proved his worth as a future head coach, Marvin Lewis did it with this complete domination of the Giants in their 16 possessions: Punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, interception, punt, interception, interception, punt, interception, punt, punt, punt, end of game”, said Sports Illustrated writer Michael Silver after the Ravens’ 34–7 Super Bowl win.

  34. The elephant in the room is Carson Palmer. He faded bad at the end of last season. But if the defense is good, it could still be a Super Bowl year.
I agree, the tools are in place. Can/will he get the ball to them.

  35. reading about Terrell – still can NOT believe he does NOT spell his name with an I.
There is a LOT of I in Terrell. You can check with anybody from SF , Philly , Dallas , Buffalo etc..
Just wait Cincy – just wait – its coming .. its coming ..
Throw it to mee … throw it to meee….
