Cowboys await test results on Spears' knee

Another key Cowboys contributor could be on the shelf for a little while.

Defensive end Marcus Spears underwent an MRI on Thursday.  Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports the club believes Spears has a sprained ligament, likely a sprained MCL.  That injury would knock Spears out 4-6 weeks and make him uncertain for the season opener.

Spears was believed to be at risk of losing snaps this year, and this injury could cost him his starting job early in the season.
