AFC North training camp one-liners

Is the window of opportunity closing for the Ravens?

The Ravens’ first nonscrimmage practice at a stadium since 1996 will be the first of a tradition.

Ravens WR Derrick Mason banged his knee on Saturday and didn’t return to practice, but he said that he’s fine.

As he continues to rehab his knee, CB Fabian Washington skipped the practice on Saturday, due to the harder playing surface at M&T Bank Stadium.

The kicking competition between Billy Cundiff and Shayne Graham is too close to call; “My gut feeling is that it’s going to be a gut feeling,” said coach John Harbaugh, possibly in his best Yogi Berra voice.

The Ravens possibly will miss Domonique Foxworth more than they’ll miss Ed Reed.

Despite the outcome of their last two NBC games, the Bengals are looking forward to playing on NBC again tonight; “Just getting into a different stadium, playing on TV and under the lights will be exciting,” QB Carson Palmer said. “It’s the first game of the season. People are excited and we’re excited.”

Four former Cowboys will get a crack at their old team, as members of the Bengals: WR Terrell Owens, CB Pacman Jones, DT Tank Williams, and S Roy Williams.

Bengals WR Matt Jones has struggled, when healthy.

If the Hall of Fame voters considered Dick LeBeau’s coaching career when deciding whether he deserves to get in as a player, it’s safe to say that they didn’t consider his coaching career in Cincinnati.

When Browns CB Brandon McDonald flipped into the end zone on Saturday, coach Eric Mangini wasn’t amused; “I’m not a big fan of the dive,” Mangini said. “That’s something we’ll talk about tomorrow.” (But, hey, at least McDonald paid for his bottle of water at the hotel.)

McDonald called his move “a kick in the face to the offense to let them know the Brown team wanted to win.”

The winning team in Saturday’s scrimmage was awarded with having no curfew.

For the offense, the Brown-White scrimmage was more brown than white.

Troy Polamalu and Ryan Clark have formed a tight bond at the safety position.

Steelers LT Max Starks has some advice for suddenly apologetic Super Bowl XL referee Bill Leavy: “He should go ahead and retire if he feels so bad about it. Just do us all a favor and not referee anymore.”

Steelers DE Ziggy Hood continues to draw praise from his teammates.

It’s great that the Steelers made the trip to Canton to see defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau get inducted into the Hall of Fame, but we think they shouldn’t have left right after LeBeau gave the first speech of the night.
