Wes Welker travels to Atlanta, Torry Holt won’t stick around

Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker said Monday that he wasn’t sure if he was traveling with the team to Atlanta, but coach Bill Belichick confirmed Tuesday morning that Welker did make the trip.

“Wes is here,” Belichick said while talking to reporters at the Falcons’ facilities.

The Patriots haven’t said whether Welker will play in Thursday night’s game against the Falcons, but the Patriots have been taking a cautious approach to his recovery from ACL surgery early this year, which would seem to suggest that Welker won’t play.

Welker will, however, participate in joint practices with the Falcons today and tomorrow, in another sign that he’s making progress in his recovery.

Belichick also commented on another veteran wide receiver, Torry Holt, who was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. Asked if Holt would stick around with the team in any capacity, such as mentoring younger receivers, Belichick answered, “I don’t think so.”
