With Jim Sorgi out, the Giants start looking for quarterbacks

First, the Giants didn’t have any healthy tight ends.

That problem has mostly been solved, but now they are almost fresh out of quarterbacks. Eli Manning will sit out Saturday’s game against Pittsburgh, and Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that backup quarterback Jim Sorgi will miss the next 2-3 weeks with a shoulder injury.

The Bears now have competition in the veteran quarterback market. (And the Giants may actually be willing to give someone guaranteed money, unlike Chicago.)

For Saturday, it appears the Giants will simply go with third-stringer Rhett Bomar and rookie Dominic Randolph from Holy Cross, who they just re-signed Thursday.

Sorgi’s injury has to be a big concern. He was placed on injured reserve for a shoulder injury last year in Indianapolis, which is partly why the Colts released him. Sorgi never underwent surgery, but this injury raises questions about whether the NFL’s equivalent of the Maytag repair man could hold up if ever called upon.
