Josh Freeman leaves Bucs game with thumb injury

Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman is only in his second year, but there are few players around the league that mean more to their franchise.

That’s why the Bucs are going to be extra careful with any injury Freeman suffers. Freeman hit his thumb on Chiefs defensive end Tamba Hali’s helmet on a follow throw Saturday night, and left the game after one series.

He had his thumb taped while sitting on the bench and watched a few series, before jogging to the locker room for a further evaluation. Freeman has thrown only nine passes in his two preseason outings.

Josh Johnson is in the game at quarterback for Tampa.
