Steelers-Giants one-liners

From the “Everything He Says Will Now Be Scanned For Possible Innuendo” file, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger had this to say about the 24-17 win over the Giants: “I think we showed some good things tonight.”

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin offered a one-word description of CB Ike Taylor’s early ejection for fighting with Giants WR Hakeem Nicks: “Dumb.”

First-year Steelers WR Arnaz Battle has had eight offensive coordinators in eight years of football.

Steelers QB Dennis Dixon was solid again, completing seven of eight passes for 82 yards and leading the team to two long touchdown drives, one of which was fueled by a nifty 22-yard run on a broken play.

Will the Steelers cut QB Charlie Batch before Week 1, at which time his $855,000 base salary would become guaranteed?

Playing the entire game, QB Rhett Bomar completed 13 of 26 passes for 167 yards and an interception.

The Giants generally were pleased with the performance of the starting defense.

So far, so good for the return of Giants S Kenny Phillips, who missed nearly all of 2009 with a serious knee injury; “It’s like riding a bicycle, you really never forget how to do it,” Phillips said. “I didn’t get a chance to make too many plays, but in the little time I was out there, everything felt great.”

Giants RB Brandon Jacobs missed the game with a neck injury that, per coach Tom Coughlin, “came out of nowhere.”

Giants WR Ramses Barden missed the game with a back injury.
