Cardinals locker room buzzes about possible Leinart trade to Giants

We mentioned in our most recent post that, of the three teams linked to Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart, only the Giants have not publicly denied the report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

And there could be a good reason for the silence.

We’re told that the Cardinals locker room currently is buzzing with a rumor that Leinart will be traded to the Giants.  It’s unclear whether there’s any truth to the rumor, but it is true that the Cardinals’ locker room is buzzing with a rumor that Leinart will be traded to the Giants.

This is one of those instances where we rely on the audience to understand what we are and aren’t reporting.  When sharing rumors in this space, we label them as rumors.  For now, this is only a rumor.  But it’s a rampant rumor in the Cardinals’ locker room.  Whether it comes to fruition remains to be seen.

That said, we’d be shocked if the Giants do the deal without getting Leinart to reduce his 2010 and/or 2011 salary.  We’d also be surprised to see Leinart agree to reduce his salary when he can, if he so chooses, dig in his heels and try to force a release, so that he could then pick his next team.

Then again, if he truly wants to be a starter, his next team could be in the UFL.

  1. Florio, I swear–one more off-handed reference to the Mike Wise story and I will boycott your site for the rest of the season. Other sites will suit my needs just fine if all you desire is to annoy me as a reader.

  2. If I was him I’d stick to my guns……he’s a joke right now, if he takes less money elsewhere as the backup, he’s a bigger joke.

  3. “When sharing rumors in this space, we label them as rumors. For now, this is only a rumor.”
are you sure about this? you may want to spend the night having yourself and your galpal Gregg going over your past BLOGS to ensure this is a true statement
i really beg to differ with it

  4. Start spreading the news, I’m leaving today
I want to be a part of it – New York, New York
These vagabond shoes, are are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it – New York, New York
I wanna wake up in a city that doesn’t sleep
And find I’m king of the hill – top of the heap
These little town blues, are melting away
I’ll make a brand new start of it – in old New York
If i can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere
It’s up to you – New York, New York
    New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps
And find I’m a number one, top of the list
King of the hill, a number one
These little town blues, are melting away
And I’m gonna make a brand new start of it – in old New York
And if i can make it there, I’m gonna make it anywhere

  5. Pretty Boy Floyd, as you previously implied, just doesn’t get it. Be interesting to see how he plays his cards. BTW, I would love to get him into a poker game, he is soooo predictable.

    Then just go away…………

  7. It is only a RUMOR that the Cadinals lockerroom is buzzing with a trade. If it is a fact. produce your source. Otherwise, stop FABRICATING.

  8. he should just go hang out with jake plummber because if Leinart doesnt want to be a backup then hes not gonna be in the nfl.

  9. “This is one of those instances where we rely on the audience to understand what we are and aren’t reporting.”
Florio, that is absolutely adorable. You think that we believe you “report”. I can imagine your precious little face smiling away like my 3 year olds does when he thinks the cookie man is going to visit.

  10. OHH NO SOCIO FAN……say it isnt so. You are going to boycott the site? Im sure that one less user is going to send the site into bankruptcy.
Who gives a crap if you read the site or not. What an idiot. If other sites fit your need and you get annoyed here….what are you waiting for Hoss? Make like a tree and get outta here.

  11. if he is cut and no one picks him up, he will have to do with even less $
he will renegotiate, to a point

The Cardinals needs to bring in a QB that can come in a get a handle on the offense in short order.
Troy Smith in Baltimore plays in the same offense with slight terminology variations. According to Anquan Boldin.
He’s a leader has all the tools including the intangibles and remember had it not been for an illness that kept him out several weeks ‘big contract Flacco’ had not out-played him for the starting job.
Several players on the team feel the same and say he is probably the most athletic player on the team.

  13. If the Cardinals are smart they’ll realize that he has negative value right now for them – he’s not currently worth what he makes to them, and they’d really like to keep him away from division rivals. The 49ers, for instance, need a quality backup and probably wouldn’t mind getting the Cardinals playbook either.
If I were in charge, I’d either offer to cover part of his 2010 salary or throw in a late round pick (5th?) just to get an AFC team to take him. Essentially, Leinart and a 5th for free, as long as they’ll keep him on the 53 all season.

  14. Sociofan,
Mike Wise, is that you? Or do you go by “Sociopath”. It’s hard to keep the two of you apart sometimes.

  15. “This is one of those instances where we rely on the audience to understand what we are and aren’t reporting.”
Florio scared he’ll be Mike Wise’d?
The Perez Hilton of Football does it again folks.

Oh well Mike, shut the site down. Sociofan is leaving.

  17. See when you have phrases in giant print on your initial page, readers don’t look as it as a rumor … I don’t know how exactly you could correct that (maybe write the word “rumor” before the headline?). A specific reference is the Chris Perry “news line”, you first said he was cut, then said in a later blog that his mother passed, that’s why he wasn’t at training camp. Didn’t see any mention of “rumor” in that first blog … (if i missed that, sorry, don’t really see C.Perry as a BIG news item … Just needed an example …)

    thanks for the lecture florio…..ass.

  19. @sociofan and cbrianwatkins: thank you! I was thinking it was just me.
Mike, we get it. We did a douchie thing. However, it seems to me he was making a bigger point that you just regurgitate the hard work (and sometimes made up crap) of others.
I have a 5 game suspension top of mind. Guess what? I got that insight right here.
Let it go – me thinks thou doth protest too much

  20. Dig in his heels and force a release so he can pick his next team??? This jerk hasn’t earned a penny of what he’s been paid in his pointless career. If this louse ever plays again even as a backup he should consider himself extremely fortunate.
At least Alex Smith realized he was being labelled a bust and risked being cut so he was smart enough to take a pay cut, stay with the team, and wait for his chance to come around again. If Lienart refuses to do this he will prove he doesn’t deserve another chance anywhere.

  21. hell plummer is still better than several starters in the league now.
the way it is going, jeff george soon will be, also.

  22. Matt sux at proball.. he better use his opportunity to the fullest and smash every hot broad he can before he’s no longer on TV.

  23. “This is one of those instances where we rely on the audience to understand what we are and aren’t reporting. When sharing rumors in this space, we label them as rumors. That’s hilarious considering when you report Favre rumors on this site, you write the article with factual writing voice. You may label it as rumor, but you report on it as “fact” and then make conjectures based on that “fact”.

  24. To whomever mentioned Troy Smith…………please.
He had 37 yards passing against the Florida Gators in the biggest game of his life. He does not have the juice to be an effective QB at this level. He is relatively short, a very average arm at best, and is not that accurate. Leadership is great. That will go out the door by game 4 if he is your starter. Great teammate though. Just not a starting NFL QB. Spin it any way you want, ain’t happening.

This statement makes a huge assumption….that Matt Leinart knows the playbook. He’s been here for 4 years and still can’t pick apart a defense…what makes you think he’d be able to stand on the sidelines for another team and tell the coach what play is coming??? That statement is almost as clueless as he’s been for this franchise…

Great post and love how you talked down to Florio. So true cause I take this site for what it is…entertainment and the “news” from it with a grain of salt.

  27. I suppose Leinart can sit on the bench for the Giants just as well as he can sit on the bench for the Cardinals. I thought Bomar looked better than Leinart has for the Cardinals.

  28. Anderson is really good at making a team. He is still going to hang receivers out to dry and eventually they will morph into crocodiles. Hey it’s not his arse.

  29. Guys, the proprietors of PFT label the entire section the “rumor mill” So stop harrassing my buddy Florio about his superb website.

  30. Jay Glazer just said your rumor is full of crap. You should out your sources. You should be fired. Is this PFT or The Onion?

  31. “Who gives a crap if you read the site or not. What an idiot. If other sites fit your need and you get annoyed here….what are you waiting for Hoss? Make like a tree and get outta here. ”
    Boondock Saints!!!!!!

  32. The “boycott” of the site and comment about other sites suiting my needs just fine were a backhanded slap about Florio’s radio comments that he is a “consolidator of other news sites.”
The readers on here are getting dumber by the day…or maybe most of you did not even bother to listen to his radio spot.

  33. >>
    +1
The Florio bashing around here gets awfully tiresome. Some people are apparently very big on the “attack the messenger, not the substance” style of debate.

  34. The Seahawks should trade Matt Hasselbeck to the Cardinals for Leinart. With something to balance it out, perhaps a sack of packing peanuts.

  35. Matt is not going to the giants.
The real 3 teams intersted are the browns, rams and possibly the patriots…
Watch when it comes out PFT will make it look like they broke this story and erase this comment.
    So far me 6
    Pft 0

  36. would this make any sense???
go somewhere he has no chance of starting again?
like he’s going to be happy there?
the best chance he has of starting is in AZ
when they see DA toss those BEAUTIFUL passes to no one!
