Derrick Ward joins the Texans

With rookie second-rounder Ben Tate done for the year and veteran Derrick Ward suddenly available, the Houston Texans got Ward in the door — and they didn’t let him go.

Ward has agreed to terms with the Texans on a one-year deal, per a league source.

Two years removed from a 1,000-yard season as part of the Earth, Wind, and Fire backfield in New York, Ward now joins Arian Foster and Steve Slaton as the top trio in Houston.

The Seahawks were believed to be interested in Ward.  The Broncos undoubtedly became interested after losing LenDale White last night.

  1. Slaton is dealing with turf toe and Jeremiah Johnson dislocated a toe last night. Arian is the only healthy RB the team had, so they had to get anyone, really.

  2. He was good enough, just not for the money they were paying him. He’s better than Slaton and a little insurance.

  3. thanks for the lombardi derrick but how long will it take him to get into shape?
he hasn’t been looking like charles atlas lately.

  4. From a basement team in the NFL to a possible playoff contender Team……. Good job D.W……..
It’s highly possible if you would have stayed with the Bucs you would have been past retirement age before they ever get SOMEONE their who knows how to build a winning team!!!

  5. As a huge Giants fan I wish he came back to us, I think the Texans will be really happy with this signing

  6. Ward was a beast with the G-Men. I miss him. In the right system, when healthy, and while getting some blocking he can be very effective. Wait that is the same for every back in the league.

  7. Slaton does not have a dislocated toe or a turf toe. Jezzus…
Jeremiah Johnson has a dislocated toe and will be out for a month. That’s part of the reason for the Ward signing.
Slaton has a toe sprain but ran at practice today and should be ready for week one according to Kubiak comments Friday eve.

Slaton has a dislocated toe, not turf toe.

Check again, dude. Jeremiah is the one who has a dislocated toe and reportedly has been waived, although it’s been mentioned he may get on the practice squad. Gonna be out a while and Slaton is questionable for Week 1.
