The news that T.J. Houshmandzadeh was on the trade block wasn’t a total shock, but it creates a difficult situation for the Seahawks if they can’t complete a deal.
The papers in Seattle indicate the Seahawks don’t want to simply cut Housh and eat his $7 million guaranteed salary if they can’t find a taker. But now they’ve got a player that doesn’t feel wanted.
“I can’t control it,” Houshmandzadeh said after Thursday’s game. “I’m the type of dude where it doesn’t bother me because I can’t control it, but it does bother me because nobody said anything to me, and nobody has said anything to me.”
Houshmandzadeh did talk to former coach Jim Mora, though. He told Mora that he didn’t get as many reps in practice this week. (That could simply be because they were sitting starters like Housh, Deion Branch, and Matt Hasselbeck.)
Still, it sounds like the Seahawks will have some fence-mending to do if they decide to keep Houshmandzadeh.
“Everybody wants to feel wanted. It’s doesn’t matter, but it’s like, ‘Wow.’ But that’s just how it goes. I’ve never been in a situation like this. I’ve never been a guy that wasn’t wanted. I was always wanted. So we’ll see,” Houshmandzadeh.
It’s not that no one wants Houshmandzadeh. No one wants him for $7 million guaranteed -- except former Seahawks G.M. Tim Ruskell.
