The New England Patriots have seen enough of Derrick Burgess.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Patriots will cut Burgess today.
The 32-year-old Burgess had five sacks last year, his only season with the Patriots. Although he recorded 16 sacks in 2005, Burgess has steadily declined as a pass rusher since then and become even more of a liability against the run.
Albert Breer of the Boston Globe pointed out after the preseason finale that the Giants consistently had success running at Burgess, and that he wasn’t generating much of a pass rush, either. And now he’s done in New England.
