Haynesworth will play opener

Though it should come as no surprise, Albert Haynesworth will be in uniform and playing for the Washington Redskins on Sunday night according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

Werder reports that Haynesworth will play primarily on passing downs, and could wind up in the starting lineup if the Cowboys start the game with three receivers on the field.

“It could be five plays or 35 plays,” Werder’s source said.

Presumably, the source and others around the Redskins want to see Haynesworth’s effort first. The Washington Post reported earlier in the week Haynesworth was expected to play and coach Mike Shanahan essentially said so himself. Chris Cooley also revealed (to Shanahan’s chagrin) that Haynesworth spent most of the week on the scout team.

With the humiliation portion of the week over with, Shanahan knows he now needs Haynesworth to help him win.
