Eagles face questions about treatment of concussions

Eagles linebacker Stewart Bradley got up after a collision with teammate Ernie Sims, and stumbled jelly-legged back to the ground. Then the Eagles cleared Bradley to return to the game, before he ultimately left with a concussion.

The Eagles announced starting quarterback Kevin Kolb suffered a “jaw” injury in the first half. He returned for a series, then didn’t come back after halftime because he actually suffered a concussion.

Concussions are an impossible problem to fully solve in the NFL, but the Eagles will face a lot of scrutiny for possible mistakes Sunday. They essentially admitted their initial evaluation was wrong when they removed Kolb and Bradley for good at halftime.

The team is already facing criticism locally and nationally.

“He wants to be out there with us,” safety Quintin Mikell said about Bradley, via Phil Sheridan of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “He was fighting it, but at a certain point, it can’t be in our hands to make that decision. Because if it was up to us, we would go out there and kill ourselves to play. And that’s what we want around here. We’re warriors.”
