Foster, Smith, McCluster named AFC players of the week

Texans running back Arian Foster, Jaguars linebacker Daryl Smith and Chiefs punt returner Dexter McCluster have been named the AFC players of the week.

Foster had 33 carries for 231 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Texans to a win over the Colts. It was the second-most Week One rushing yards in NFL history, behind only O.J. Simpson’s 250 in 1973.

Smith had 11 tackles, a forced fumble and an interception in the Jaguars’ 24-17 win over the Broncos. The interception with 53 seconds left sealed the win.

McCluster had a 94-yard touchdown in his NFL debut to help the Chiefs beat the Chargers on Monday night. It was the longest punt return for a player in his first NFL game since Jacquez Green of the Buccaneers had a 95-yard touchdown in his first NFL game in 1998.
