Cardinals still trying to be cautious with Fitzgerald

Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald caught the game-winning touchdown Sunday, but he didn’t quite look like himself for most of the game. (Luckily they had Steve Breaston.)

Playing with a knee brace, Fitzgerald seemed to be working his way back into condition after missing most of training camp with an injury. Fitzgerald is fully practicing this week, but the Cardinals have acknowledged he’s not all the way back by integrating Steve Williams into Fitz’s place in practice in an effort to keep Fitzgerald fresh.

“You walk a fine line,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said via the team’s website, “because you want Larry to be in game shape and the only way to do that is get reps in practice.”

Fitzgerald will play Sunday against Atlanta, but running back Beanie Wells’ status is less certain. He was limited for a second straight day Thursday.

For the Falcons, safety Erik Coleman (knee), cornerback Dominique Franks (not injury related), and wide receiver Michael Jenkins (shoulder) all missed practice.
