Braylon Edwards gets busted

Just as we were preparing to begin hurling superlatives at a self-described Super Bowl contender that began to start looking like one once they stopped talking about being one, receiver Braylon Edwards has provided an unwanted distraction with a DUI arrest.

According to Larry Celona of the New York Post, Edwards was arrested at 5:15 a.m. ET, and he blew a 0.16 percent blood alcohol concentration. That’s twice the legal limit of 0.08. (We got the head’s up from one of our friends at NBC, who heard the news while listening to Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on WFAN.)

Edwards remains in police custody.

The move comes less than a year after Edwards was arrested in Cleveland for assault. He later pleaded no contest to the charges, and he was not suspended by the NFL.

With Edwards and Santonio Holmes both in their contract years and with the Jets likely to keep one and not the other over the long term, Edwards just made it a little harder for him to be the guy who sticks around.
