Vernon Davis: “We will win.” Todd Haley: Whatever

San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis has guaranteed victory on Sunday at Kansas City.

Chiefs coach Todd Haley doesn’t care.

“We have to win this one. We will win this one,” Davis said. “I’m pretty confident that we will pull this one out. . . . We will win this game. We have the team to do it.”

Not exactly Joe Namath before Super Bowl III, but a fairly bold assertion on Davis’s part. But Haley doesn’t sound like he’s planning to print Davis’s comments and post them on the locker room bulletin board.

Vernon Davis is a heck of a player and a heck of a competitor,” Haley said when asked to respond. “I would expect that to be his belief and viewpoint.”

Haley said he’s not going to worry about what Davis says because, “We are really focused on our task at hand, which is getting a little better each and every day.”

And so Haley ruined a chance to give us a fun war of words heading into Sunday.
