Amid rumblings that Saints quarterback Drew Brees has an injured left knee, Brees showed up for practice on Wednesday wearing a brace on the joint. But he fully participated in the first full practice session of the week.
“He’s sore but he was full in practice and did well,” coach Sean Payton said. “He put a brace on there but he was able to go full. He has some soreness but he was good.”
Asked what Brees’ situation is, Payton was a bit evasive.
“There’s no situation,” Payton said. “His knee is sore from the game. There’s no specific injury other than that he has soreness. We didn’t put him on the report. He took all the reps. There’s not an injury to report. I was pleased with how he functioned. He functioned fine. It’s something that as the week goes on, I think he’ll have no problem with and he did a real good job in all the team stuff today.”
It appeared late in Sunday’s loss to the Falcons that Brees was indeed injured. But as long as he fully participated in practice and won’t be on the injury report, he’ll be playing against the Panthers on Sunday, regardless of whether he’s simply “sore” or whether there is a “situation.”
